Lol I legit expected a close contest. Seems Lillee really is downplayed here.
It's not that. If you compared Sachin vs Lara the outcome would be the same. Not because Lara wasn't close to Sachin, but because most think he was a smidgen ahead. Same would likely happen in a Ambrose vs McGrath where McGrath is slightly superior. Lillee and Ambrose are close but most probably think Curtly is slightly ahead, hence the results. I kinda feel like you already know this....😉😉😉

Would have been close on here 20 years ago. Lillee's stock has fallen.

I think it is close though tbh. Ambrose's first series in Pakistan was likely on pace-friendlier tracks than the one Lillee played in where apparently even Imran got rotated.

Yeah I dont think Ambrose's SC record is a big deal, its just an average performance. So to me this is a reasonable comparison.

Here's a question I have to ask. If Ambrose played on bowler friendly wickets in 1990, it's fair to say that the Pakistan bowlers also played on those wickets? Yes. Is it also fair to assume that Pakistan has and will produced bowler friendly wickets at home from time to time or was it only that 1990 series???

No it wasn't. Wi bowling was just much superior to Australia's that they kept the Pakistan batting in check and vice versa. WI played Pakistan away in 1980, 86 and 1990. And at no point in time did either team score more than 400 runs in any match. Further, in the 86 series, WI were bundled out for 53 and in the very next match, WI bowled out Pakistan for 77 and won by an innings.

Australia played Pakistan in Pakistan in 1982, are people here seriously contending that Pakistan curators prepared more bowler friendly wickets for the much superior WI bowling in subsequent series? They didn't. Like 80 and 86 WI bowler was just great on Pakistans much less pace friendly wickets (including Ambrose). Either that, or I don't want people to keep contending that Pakistan wickets were death to fast bowling, because everytime WI toured there (3 times) they kept Pakistan batting in check.

Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Curtly Ambrose and Ian Bishop were each taking wickets for fun.

Was this partially because the pitches were more sporting than your average Pakistan tracks? Or was it simply because they were great bowlers? I would probably need to watch more footage of this series before making assumptions one way or the other.

In one of Lillee's three tests in Pakistan though, the match score was something like 1000-12! It would be an astounding effort for 4 pace bowlers to be making hay on a pitch like that.
