Zaheer Khan acting Alpha at Hayden and Gilchrist early in that game was one of the more feeble attempts at faux-dominance I've ever seen. Lasted about 9 balls.

You would have fancied your chances as a bowler though. The Aussies had collapsed multiple times during the tournament and you'd be forgiven for thinking if you go hard and bowl well early you could be in with a shout

Yeah but, I mean he was going at nines ffs. Probably a good idea to zip it.

Was this before or after realising you're a late 90s/early 00s Indian fast bowler though?

What was Hansies secret for getting Sachin out so easy. Seemed like an innocuous bowler and he was actively trying to lose the game half the time iirc

Maybe what Azharuddin was offering his players to throw games was a lot more enticing. The really big bucks :D

Sachin was such a winner that he couldn't help it. Somehow he must have sensed that Hanse was trying to lose and beat him by getting out and helping him win

Sachin, Viv, Abdv - Great avg + Extra Ordinary Strike Rate.
Kohli just below these 3 and a league above Dhoni, Lara, Ponting and Bevan.

Those are not the only factors. Kohli’s average is even more ridiculous, and his conversion rate and chasing legacy is unparalleled
Because he played in easy era of batting.
When Abdv and Kohli played together ( 10 years? ) Abdv stats were miles ahead.

Kohli debut to Sachin Retirement
Kohli 50 avg 85 SR, scored a 100 in every 7.5 matches
Sachin 49 avg 95 SR, a 100 in every 6.5 matches.
Kohli was 20-25 years old, Sachin was 35-40..his worst period. Imagine 20-25 years old Sachin playing in that era.

Chasing legacy is also overrated
Viv was the best batsman of 80s, he was the best Chaser too.. Same with 90s Sachin, 00s Dhoni, 2010s Abdv ( Kohli was 1 league below in terms of stats )
Batting became lot easier allowed Kohli (and Abdv) to bat forever, that is the only difference with top batsmen of 80s or 90s.
Sachin and Viv had lot of iconic chasings in their career as well.

You are comparing a very rookie phase Kohli to Sachin.

I still hesitate to put him on a level with Sachin (potentially Bevan too but hard to compare them)

The bowling in ODI cricket was much more consistently challenging during Sachin's time, particularly the first half of his career. Not to mention said first half was during the lower scoring/bigger boundaries/smaller bats/less flat pitches era

Kohli has been incredible but it's hard to hold his body of work up compared to 90s Sachin given what JAMODIs have become

No.. Kohli was in top form and a sensational batsman already, his stats remains similar until now ( after era adjustment ).
While Sachin was declining and was not even good to be included in the team at the time of retirement.
