Cartydurham's stint was like one of those ordeals you go through that are painful at the time but you look back and - actually nah it was just pain all the way

With the rain on day four of the fifth test, the awards committee has conducted an impromptu meeting and decided the awards will be announced today. In keeping with tradition, I will announce the england poster(s) of the series, GIMH the Australian contingent and as series host he he will also announce the overall winner.

For England, the series started with a raft of new posters to the forum, and we would like to thank you for your contributions. Obviously Carty was particularly prolific early, but Mackembhoy has also excelled on a consistent basis. The usually excellent Howe has been great as expected, though like Steve Smith, his output has been down on previous series. Same can be said for Adders, who owes me a bottle of tequila as things stand atm. For his part, Molehill has been England’s Scott Boland - largely gone missing when things weren’t going well but somehow there or thereabouts for the celebrations.

The series has been conducted in mostly good spirits on here, despite early favourite Nintendo being ruled out with an unfortunate distended arsehole injury leading to a month on the sidelines.

Irrelevancies from outside the two countries at issue have tried to get in the way but have largely not succeeded, thank goodness.

Ashes81 has stood out as someone who gets the forum and its sense of humour(?) while the surprise performance for mine has been 91JMay posting in a relatively competent and pleasant manner for a change. I hope one day to do the same.

I realise there are many who’ve contributed well who have not been named here, but you’ve all made for a series which has been posted on in good spirits.

in a close run thing, the selectors have decided Mackembhoy has been Englands POTS. Terrific effort on dayboo, and congrats to you and your family.

I will hand over now to GIMH to announce the Aus worthies and the overall Medal winner.

Well, congratulations to mackembhoy for snagging that award, and a fine display it’s been from him.

So to look to the antipodes where, in the face of a few odious blow-ins, standards have been high from many as the Aussies have posted through the night. Well, most of them. Some switched the channel over once Zak Crawley hit a few boundaries, though at least they didn’t go on an impromptu trip to Turkey to escape the difficulties that Test Cricket can pose.
Prince EWS has been a frequent poster, unfortunately despite posting close to a thousand times in the subforum he’s only actually made three different posts. Mind you, he’d have been ineligible anyway due to flip-flopping over who he actually supports in The Ashes over the years.

Spark started the series about as well as Andrew Strauss did the 10-11 version, losing his mind to a flat deck, but like the former England skipper recovered well to show us all what he’s capable of. Morgieb too was as endearing and ever-present as ever, and is probably still worried now about Australia somehow not retaining the urn. VI was VI, and you can’t give any higher praise than that.

TheJediBrah had his best ever series, damming with faint praise though that may be, and Starfighter was quality when he showed up. Many others that I’ve neglected to mention have been quality, reflective of the level of discussion that’s taken place throughout.

Ultimately though, one poster has stood head and shoulders above his compatriots and takes home the POTS award and that’s Gob. Consistently excellent, always looking for a ruse, and a chirpy Aussie but fair with it. And credit where credit is due; much as when batting and bowling, it’s one thing to do it at home but you’re tested so much more in an away Ashes series and he’s come up trumps. And for that reason, Gob takes home the inaugural GIMH-Burgey Medal. And well deserved too.

Well done Gob. Thoroughly deserved.

Congrats to all and sundry, and especially to renowned CW legends GIMH and Burgey, who always give of themselves to the forum and deserve to have such an august award named in their very great honour.
