Nah Chanderpaul and Waugh havea disproportionate gap between their averages and RPI because of shameless selfish batting and exposing the tail. Border fits in that grouping too but evades criticism. ?
Waugh did it in a powerful lineup, chanderpaul was a bloke who ran himself out once in his desepration to avoid strike.

Border levels above those cowards.

Yeah those two are especially despicable but it's still incriminating to find yourself in that company. Periodic reminder that Rahane scored more match winning tons than Border.

Trundler showing just how much stats don't tell the full story. Whenever Border finished not out, Australia needed him to finish not out, farming the strike to keep our tail that starts from Border +1 from getting out. This was not a team scoring 400, but one struggling to get to 200. Never did I feel Border padded his stats.
It's also false to claim he was a lower order batsman. He batted all over the middle order, based on what was needed. It was only late career that him batting low became a regular thing, and then only when others were actually becoming reliable above him, such as Boon and Waugh. Times were very different and the stat numbers while looking the same, are very different due to context.
Border, Gavaskar, Richards and Miandad were a level above everyone, who were just good bats. Think of the difference between Smith, Root (recently), Kohli (not recently) and Williamson (in NZ) and everyone else.
Pull your head in, Trundler, and respect the opinions of your elders who saw the man! And never ever speak badly of Border. It just shows you to be a petulant young ****wit.

Should've scored more tons then. Smith has 3 more in 64 fewer matches. That's not a good rate at all for a great batsman tbh

Also Border went more years without a ton than Kohli right now. Hard to defend sub-Chanderpaul output without resorting to nostalgia.

The difference I suppose being Border still averaged over 40 during his ton-less trot.

You are fast becoming the most miserable CWer despite stiff competition. Starting to embody the most punishing (acceptable) aspects of this site. I can't remember the last time I saw you make a happy cricket post that wasn't a mean reaction to a player or poster you don't like.

Unlike your competition for the misery guts crown you're capable of much better. Sort it out. Take time out if you need. It can't feel good to be so negative all the time.

Flem as always makes some good points here.

I do take issue with the idea that Trundler is capable of much better, but reasonable minds can differ on these things
