You couldn't make the amount of stupidity in this match up.
I'm lost for words to be honest - that was absolutely brutal. Over 500 in a day and off only 75 overs. Another 15 overs, we'd have got to well over 600

Frankly from about the third over it felt like a team was never going to get a better opportunity to break that record than today. It's certainly not impossible.

That quotation was a description of the charge of the Light Brigade during the Battle of Balaclava. That military action arose from a miscommunication, was a disaster, and has become enduringly synonymous with hubris and failure.
Playing test cricket as England have been in the later part of this year might seem hubristic, but it is deliberate and has been extremely successful. This might not be war, but it seems a bit hard to argue that it’s folly.

They'll likely declare before then IMO. That said I hate unneeded declarations, like when Williamson declared immediately after his own double with de Grandhomme on 74* off 53 (to win the match with 130 overs to spare). Why not score as many as possible with this much time available?

Have to give lots of credit to ECB for roping in Mccullum . He has completely changed the mindset of English batsmen . Perth wicket is also flat pitch . You don’t see Australia scoring 500 runs in a day .
This approach may fail on tougher wickets or against better attacks . But England were struggling before 2021 June even on flat tracks .
