As the title mentions. I mention last 20 years to exclude Harbi's and Lara's 2001 performances as they are too obvious.

Flintoff 05 Ashes
Warne 05 Ashes - better than Freddie’s tbh
Smith 2019 Ashes
Pujara out here time before last
Johnson 2013/14 Ashes
Tendulkar in that series in SA where he had those duels with Steyn
Herath vs Aus in SL
Abbas vs Aus in UAE
Cook 2010/11 Ashes

heavy Aus involved series bias here but just recounting ones I saw a fair bit of

Warne in the 2005 Ashes perhaps?
I loved Warne's bowling during that series, but it's not really close. England occasionally got on top of Warne, or at least had spells where they scored some runs off him in between getting flummoxed by unplayable deliveries. Johnson just owned them from start to finish. Might as well have been bowling to toddlers.

The "WTC" bollocks ruins the list, so you have to scan. Walsh in England in 2000 would have a statistical case, but just misses the cut-off. Ashwin against England in 2020/21 is close statistically, but obviously not in real life.

State Vice-Captain
Azhar Mahmood in South Africa against Donald and Pollock, scored 2 centuries in South Africa which I think no one has scored 2 centuries in a series at South Africa during 1990's by a visiting batsman.

Edit:My bad it should be after 2000.

Root in Sri Lanka last year. Root against India at home last year. Williamson in Dubai. Kohli against Lanka at home. Smith 2019 obviously. Smith in India.

Only a 2 test series but McCullum vs India in 2014. Scored a double in the 1st test to set up a win and that triple in the 2nd to save it.

Johnson's Ashes is the clear favorite followed by Warne's Ashes. Surprised there isn't any serious contenders aside from these.

Johnson's Ashes beats Warne for a couple reasons. Firstly they won the series which, despite some people not liking it, does matter. Secondly the context of the series. In 2013/14 it was literally just 5 or 6 months previously (I think) that England won the Ashes 3-0 and came over with a vastly superior side on paper, and Johnson himself wasn't even selected for the previous series after his embarrassing ridicule at the hands of England 3 years previously. It was an absurd turn-around of fortunes
