Asia cup 2022

Dude, relax. India were missing bumrah and Patel, their main bowlers. It's really not time for wholesale changes.
i understand its a rant but its still logical nonetheless. Come on now dude -Patel is a pie chucker just like yuvraj was. the only bowler i consider top tier (boult, afridi, cummins) is bumrah. even bumrah is a smidgeon less than boult. and nope not shami (hes tier 1.5 if there is one)- cant forget how he bowled in the death in the worldcup-ugly full tosses.

When you didn't have to bowl Hooda , there is no justification of playing him over Karthik . Extremely confused team selection.
He's a very dangerous hitter who can go hard early on. I get the selection tbh.

He done really good work for India batting higher in his brief Indian career tbf.

I wouldn't mind seeing him or Pant open, heck I am at stage I don't really care who as long as Rahul is gone.

Hooda and Samson to me are the kind of guys who will absolutely **** sub par bowling but would struggle against real quality. I have much more time for Pant - he obviously hasn't figured out how to play LOIs but is capable enough to do well against any type of bowling.

Why was Bumrah rested for this tournament considering this our best chance of winning tournament rather than the 20 20 world cup coming

Very insightful, do you write for any major sports websites? Your writing is very eloquent and the way you describe things is very detailed and fact-based. You remind of another user who was on cricket web years ago, he had written a poem on Ricky Ponting. I will share it if possible. Best of luck.

In the current setup, they are trying to give people a fair chance instead of making random changes. The players have started to play more freely coz there is a sense of security unlike before. But on the flip side, this also means that guys like Rahul will continue to play selfish cricket and won't get dropped that easily.

Feel bad for Hooda, he was doing well at the top of the order. DK is the perfect number 7 though, knows exactly how to approach the game at that number.

Hooda has barely got a few opportunities, and return of Rahul, Kohli, etc. also means that he'll get chances on and off. Too early to judge IMO. Hooda is a quality player who can also bowl, and we've always needed that 6th bowling option. He is not a lower order hitter, so can understand him not doing well in that role.

Seriously, why bhuvi again in the 19th over. Blew away a lot of the hard work
Actually, our batters didn't score enough in the last 2 games. We can blame the bowlers all we want, but Arshdeep was on-point in the last over(even against Pak) and Bhuvi was unlucky in the 19th over. Shanaka edged one and it barely missed Pant and went for a four(key moment that could have changed the game IMO). There was only one boundary conceded in that over apart from that.

Also, in the previous game against Pak, we were going to get absolutely smashed before Bhuvi got the breakthrough and gave us a chance. Bhuvi can't be the leader of our attack, but he is a damn good 2nd/3rd seamer IMO. Bumrah, Arshdeep and Bhuvi can form a really potent attack. Only thing is we'll have to go with Axar and Ash as our main spinners and leave out Chahal and Bishnoi.

This bowling line-up looks a lot more reliable IMO.

Axar
Ashwin
Bhuvi
Arshdeep
Bumrah
*Hooda can chip in with a couple of overs whenever needed.

I think maybe I am wrong but India or any top team in general should start respecting the bilaterials LOI like it was done 10 years back.

Its all good testing bench strength and with these IPL's and PSL's top players have more on their plates and need resting periods but what I have noticed come the big ICC tourneys it's those players who have done it in the blue, green or yellow shirt day in and day out they are the ones who step up while the mercenary league bullies end up taking the back seat.

Another underrated aspect is the gelling of team combination when so many top players rest for the bilaterials no one side is able to build a settled unit and this hurts them at crunch times in a world event.

Quick Reminder to everyone: IND didn't make semi finals of CT 2006 in IND and second round of WC 2007 when Dravid was the captain.
Dravid is one of my favorites off all time but even in his playing days I thought he felt more like a soldier who would lay his life for the cause rather then a leader who would take you to greater heights.

I am not really judging on the basis of international career, more from what I have seen of him in ipl.

Whatever it takes!!!
Playing Hooda is fine but playing out of position when you have a specialist finisher sitting out is stupidity.

But our coach is the guy who selected a test team for IPL 1. ?‍♂

I hope we can beat Afghans today I would not be one bit confident beating SL in a crunch game when they play with no pressure. Shanka and Bhanuka seems to be the most deadly finishing combo in the world right now.

Sweet lord is Hooda supposed to be the sixth bowler now? Why oh why us our side the only one that struggles with the simple idea of playing two all-rounders as a bare minimum?

Hooda was beyond awful for Srh as a finisher too. Whoever thought of making him bat there again and triggering his PTSD deserves to be sacked asap

I dont think they have the range but I do think Hooda can be more successful than Samson.

Found a PakPassion thread in which people were calling Ijaz Ahmed the worst player to play for Pakistan. Just completely devoid of logic.
This below post from Pakpassion is even better and I thought Himmanv hating on Sanga was illogical this guy takes the cake Rizwan must have really done something to him.

Rizwan was disaster in the middle-order, and to save his career Misbah gave him a lifeline as an opener because he didn’t want to open the door for a Sarfraz return.

Rizwan has scored heavily, there is no about that. However, Rizwan has not had a big impact in terms of winning Pakistan matches against big teams.

In fact, his dot ball percentage in the PP overs and his dependency on the leg side has often proved to be detrimental against big sides. Sure he was won a couple of matches against India in Dubai, but it is the easiest venue to chase.

Pakistan would have lost both these games had they batted first, just like they lost the first Asia Cup match where Rizwan made sure that Pakistan settle for a below par total by playing a nothing innings.

Both Babar and Rizwan are in the same boat. They are average T20 players but they have been given a free ride because there are no alternatives and the management does not hold them accountable.

I think we need to accept that this pair is not ideal but they are the best we have got considering the lack of talent in the country.

Fakhar is a hack but the most useful hack that we have. He is the only one in the team capable of scoring a 45 ball ton on his day, but I feel he has gone into his shell and is trying to mimic Babar and Rizwan by converting himself into an accumulator so that he can match their output.

Unfortunately, he cannot make this work and also, considering the fact that the duo waste so many PP overs with their selfish batting, Fakhar does not even have the time to bat like them.

When Babar and Rizwan are 15 (15), they are under no pressure to slog because they know that the 15 (15) will eventually turn into 50 (35) because they have time on their side, but because of these two, everyone else in the team is forced to slog like a mad man and frankly none of them are talented enough to make it worse consistently.

This duo has made life very difficult for the likes of Fakhar, Asif, Khushdil, Nawaz etc. Nawaz played a blinder the other day but he was forced to slog from ball one because Rizwan was not going to take initiative and luckily for Nawaz, it paid off for him.

On another day, he holes out for 10 (4) and then he gets bashed while Rizwan is praised for “holding the fort”.

People justify Rizwan and Babar because it is their role to play anchor but you can only have one anchor and playing anchor in T20s is much easier than playing the aggressor because you have a bigger margin for error and you can justify a 50 (35) or a 70 (50) but the aggressor has to regularly score 50 (25) to justify his selection.

Rizwan has also earned a lot of plaudits for his personality and behavior but is becoming very annoying now. A PR machine.

Like Shadab, he has become a camera merchant who has also has to do something on the field with the hope that the camera will catch him.

He tries to be over-friendly with the opposition, when he gets inured he is always overreacting to show that he is in a lot of pain and fighting for his team in agony. Even that praying in the stadium thing has become part of his gimmick.

During the previous World T20, his PR machine cooked up a story on how he was facing a life and death situation before the semifinal and had to sneak out of the ICU to make himself available.

He had to see a doctor after the India match the other day for a minor precautionary check and I won’t be surprised if his PR team milks it again.

I love the casual implication that India are not a big T20I team ?

Our guys seem intent on proving it true. ?

Sorry to show my ignorance, but in the beginning was the Asia Cup a test series at first. I know times have changed...
