can't be bothered to rate them all rn because one's career is still going but the best is Brian Lara and the worst is Mahela

Then the rest. Sachin over Lara slightly but no one outside of the Donor Headley has had to carry a batting lineup as much as Brian.

Come on, man. Australia between 1984 and 1989?

Andrew Hilditch, Wayne Phillips, Geoff Marsh, Graeme Wood, Greg Ritchie, Dirk Wellham, Simon O'Donnell and David Hookes were among the luminaries in that line up.

Lol at thinking Joe Root is a better test batsman than all of those you’ve put below him bar Jayawardene.

I think he’s better than Cook and Chanders.

Easy to forget Root practically opened the batting for more than half his career given his useless top order.

It's still too early to really rate Root - he probably has a few years left. At this current form he ends up a good number of places higher (I'd say he has potential to be at that Border/Kallis range). If he dips, I think he arguably still maintains his place (as long as it's not a Kohli style dip) seeing as below him is Cook. And he's a better bat than Cook.

Definitely better than Cook and Mahela. Even if he was to do nothing for the rest of his career. Chanderpaul/Khan ahead of him is acceptable.

Decided on Dravid over Root. Root needs to improve his away record against pace.
