Is there a team that can beat this Asian ODI XI?

Younis over Dravid is just a valid replacement in general I think. I definitely won't be considering Asif / Bumrah etc. for the first team here regardless of how good they were/are in their short careers. Waqar's easily a lot better bowler than Kapil but if If dropping him was the only way to get Kapil in the team then I'd probably just do that, just can't ignore the quick strike potential of Kapil in the lower order and he is not a terrible bowler. Wasim / Imran / Murali etc. can't be touched anyway.

I mean in Asia you have to get the new ball overs out of the way and then throw the ball to Murali and Ashwin/Kumble until the remaining wickets fall. Bumrah or Waqar in SEA depends on what version of Bumrah I'm getting. If I'm playing in NZ Miandad is the first batsman picked. There's a million ways you could shuffle the players.

wrt Bumrah it's just that before he actually is at least 3/4th of the way in his career you can't really even say what "versions" are actually possible for him.

But all in all I meant in general if we were making one team for all conditions I think I'd go for Kapil over Waqar.

Sorry I meant what version of Waqar I'm getting smh. Early 90s Waqar didn't play Australia or WI much but I'm taking my chances. If post injury Waqar turns up I'm taking Bumrah away.

Excuse me. Early 90s Waqar played WI at home in 1990 and away in 1993. And imo he was exceptional and the batting then, for the WI was very good.

Yeah, you are definitely getting a far better bowler and maybe that's the way to go, but Waqar ain't hitting 4 sixes when you need 20 to avoid the follow on with 1 wicket remaining so idk, there are edge cases when Kapil might end up being more useful and I am biased by that with the hope that Kapil's bowling won't end up losing matches for you by itself.

You thinking about Dhawan or Randiv? Both in Melbourne though.
Russel Arnold lives in Sydney and Waqar was living in bella vista for quite a while. Not sure if he still is though, but whether he’s moved or not, the fact he chose to live there at all is certainly a blight on his record.

'Not being a terrible bowler' shouldn't be enough to get you into an ATG bowling attack.

Again, why this obsession with getting an extra bat at the expense of bowling quality?

Kapil isn't getting the new ball. so his utility is even less than it seems, whereas Waqar is arguably the greatest exponent of reverse swing ever and a specialist at eradicating the tail.

I'd say Kapil is definitely a more useful lower order batsman than Imran, especially in a strong batting lineup. I wouldn't have him as third seamer though. Fifth bowler, sure. You probably don't need a second spinner generally when you have Murali. It just depends on what you prefer. I'm going for variety so I'll take a spinner.
