That was some knock by Asif, the game changer. We were good with the ball. Despite Southee going for runs in his last over he bowled pretty well. Just not a death bowler. Neesham never quite reliable as a bowler. We were a bowler short and we batted pretty dour. Early days though, plenty of cricket left still. Beating India is going to be some serious task.

'Good' is stretching it re: Santa's bowling. He can do a job, but as mentioned you can't be bowling him in the final 5, at which point you have to question if you're better off with a proper bowler.

He's only played 2 IPL games as well? Not really proven as a bowler at the highest level. His T20I record looks alright but if you dig into it it's because he bowls really well on dustbowls (Pallekele, Vidarbha, etc) or at home in NZ. Goes at above 8s basically anywhere else.

Decent but not 'good', definitely the worst bowler in today's game. Pak's entire spin attack is more effective in T20 cricket. But then again, he probably justifies his spot thanks to batting+fielding.

Good win by Pakistan there, looked in trouble but Asif Ali killed it off.

Pakistan probably not quite as great as Bazid thinks they are but they're pretty great at the moment.
Reckon they've got the best T20 outfit in this tournament tbh. England are good, but the rest seem a mish-mash of star players plus token T20 specialists. They seem to have actually picked the best players available to them to perform in specific roles.

NZ's put together a good side too tho, can see them getting over India. Afghanistan and SL the dark horses I reckon.

What on earth are you talking about? His record is way better than Southee’s and pretty clearly better than Sodhi’s.

Criticising a spinner for succeeding on NZ T20I pitches has gotta be one of the most nonsensical things I’ve ever heard too. He’s taking his wickets at 21 and an e/r of 7.38 in a country known for high scoring T20s and pitches that don’t spin.

All statistical analysis aside, it’s simply a fact that he has been the first spinner picked in our LO sides for years.

A compelling contest featuring two likeable teams.

I think had kiwis played through their tour of Pakistan, they would have a fair idea of the opponent players. Politics in sports is harmful in many ways.

Phillips definitely a no to keeping - as good as Guptill in the field and a part-time spinner (would be madness imo and could retrigger some of his old keeping injuries which is why he stopped in the 1st place).
Just on this, he kept for Gloucestershire pretty much throughout the Blast this summer.

**** yeah, the kiwis had been flying too high prior to this. Can't stop the UAE juggernaut baby. Southee should've gone for more but I'll take HTB Williamson stinking it up and Boult choking again with glee. Also Santa with the gifts lololololol.

That batting line-up … all the damn t20s we play and we suddenly in a World Cup decide Mitchell is an opener, Neesham a 4, Conway a 5 and Phillips a 6 …

That’s some John Bracewell era antics, baffling stuff.
