Ok, a bit to look at here
First off no Joof is a bit of a surprise, but not a massive one, I definitely get the sense patience was wearing thin with some of his modes of dismissal at times. Has a good eye but technically he has definitely regressed a bit, can largely hide that against first grade plodders but has been unable to find a way against a better calibre of bowling. Joof can come again for sure, but the way he bats will never likely lead to consistency longterm. Brad Davis bossing the inter squad game probably swung things in his favour. I like Bobby (despite not really being a Sturt fan funnily enough), one of the better players to watch bat going around here in these parts, but knows his game well and generally is reasonibly solid. Not 100% sure how far he will go longterm but it's nice to see a grade stalwart get a go at it. Frankly I'm not optimistic/insane enough to predict significent improvement, but really this is probably about the best I could have expected. Dicey batting is nothing new, but worryingly the bowling looks a bit thin as well. No Worrall or Mennie is a big blow, although Worrall is not too far off being back ready with any luck. Chadd is Chadd, but he has a bit of a ropey knee and that will need to be managed carefully, Agar was the revelation of last season but only time will tell of he can back it up this year. Winter is solid but unlikely to run through sides when the ball doesn't move, Robins will struggle without having his bunny Nick Bertus to bowl at, and Pope hasn't been able to get it together consistently at Shield level. I would seriously contemplate playing young Liam Scott ahead of Valente in a similar sort of role. As much as like the bloke Valente has been a bit neither here nor there in his Shield career. Bit too sedate with the ball, bit too streakay and bottom hand heavy with the bat (although it does surprise me he hasn't shown a bit more with the bat at FC level, only against the white ball to date), and he has been around for a little while now. Scott just looks a bit cleaner technically with the bat, isn't lighning quick as a bowler but can get some useful bounce at times. A bit of a gamble for sure, but one I would strongly consider taking
