Not really. Stokes innings was arguably not even the best of its own year, as it has very healthy competition from Kusal Perera. Perera's innings was named as the best Test innings of the decade by Wisden in 2019 and he also won the best test performance from Cricinfo for 2019.
Still find it incredible that the highest first class (although it did happen in a test IIRC) 10th wicket stand to win a match was 59 or something until 2019, then we had 2 stands of 70+ to win within about 6 months of each other.

Warne and Murali coming around within a few years of one another is just staggering too. No standout spinner for 120 years and then boom, 2 guys much better than the rest vying for the title of best spinner in the world.

It happened with O'Reilly and Grimmett too.

I don't think Warne and Murali are definitely outright better than O'Reilly and Laker though. They are generally rated higher partly due to modern bias, and partly because there is a lot more international cricket in modern times so they got more opportunities to prove themselves.

Do people still try to claim the WC final wasn't a tie

The denial is strong with you brits

You didn't win it. Awarded after a tie

The boundary countback thing is more ludicrous than the underam ball

At no point in history until that day did any cricket fan know about this weird rule

Happy to accept that if you were awarded it, you won it, as long as we can all agree the WC Final was a tie that would've likely gone NZ's way had the umpires done their job properly.

In a way it is bizarre that we have Anderson and Broad together too, England despite all the extra matches we play had only had 3 bowlers get 300 test wickets in history and this pair will double it and get 300+wickets each after the age of 30. Broad currently has 169 wickets after his 30th birthday.

As amusing as it is to see the claim that “brits” are in denial over the World Cup and then absolutely define denial by claiming we didn’t win it, what does it have to do with the thread?

The one who has the trophy won it, If Williamson really wanted it he could have created a huge ****ing fuss on the field but he was too soft.

i unironically think he should have ripped dharmasena to shreds on the field. 'nz sport is nice' doesn't cut it either. aaron smith and tj perenara dominate referees in our best sport and we have our fair share of enforcers, the cricket team needs to get with the times.

we all know erasmus and dharmasena receive the new concrete shoes they deserve if india have that standard of umpiring pulled on them.

Yep, Kohli and BCCI would have ripped em a new one, generally I like the way NZ are good guys on the field but that wasn't the time for it.

Do we know if anyone in the New Zealand team realised in the moment that it should have been 5 runs and not 6? I got the impression that this only came up a long time after. Sky didn't mention it at all in commentary and no one on here did either. Obviously the umpire is the one man who should have got it right, but I don't know if anyone queried it at the time. They would surely have pointed it out, nicely or otherwise, if they'd realised it. The actual incident itself isn't something they could have ripped into the umpires about if they were unaware of the error.

I don't think anyone watching realised it was wrong either. Everyone went "oh well that's extremely unlucky" not "NZ got screwed by the umpiring".

NZ losing in the most heartbreaking fashion imaginable wouldn't have been enjoyable if they didn't have the most obnoxious and uppity CW poster fanbase (atleast relative to population)
