Third time Pujara has faced 200+ balls in an innings this series - second Indian to do so in a series Down Under after Sunil Gavaskar in 1977/78

Good day for India

Need at least 500 in the first dig tho, and Australia bowled well and could easily have India 250/5 end of first session tomorrow, as someone else pointed out

A dead pitch plays more in favour of India IMO, simply because they have more experience winning in these sorts of conditions, and because the Aus batting has shown itself prone to brain fades. And if this pitch breaks up at all, even the slightest bit, it makes Jadeja a real threat, and he's a fantastic bowler when he's got runs on the board and can run in from one end all day.

But before we can bring Jadeja into the game, we must bat all day tomorrow. And that's a big ask. Compelling test so far IMO.

This pitch will not break up. It might get more or less difficult to bat on, but it will not break up. For some reason this square is held together with super glue or concrete.

There's this cricinfo video where Laxman says Vihari shouldn't have opened because he's never opened in FC or any form of cricket. Apparently Vihari has 3 FC games opening and averages 100 lol.

Also has quite a few games at number 3. Not a bad move to have him open at all, especially given the alternatives

I will complain about this Melbourne pitch if, and only if, it eventually produces a dull and uninspiring draw.
I quite like the idea of a four test series being played on four pitches with four distinct characteristics.

Haven't watched a ball but judging from score/run rate another typically terrible MCG drop-in slow road? Wonder where the Boxing Day test will be played next year

You're almost correct, but as the commentary pointed out. The curators left a five-o-clock shadow of grass on the pitch that was bound to change everything for the MCG.
