Nice to see shitposting levels haven't suffered in my absence

John unblocked me because he thinks my posts are awesome. Maybe you all could learn a thing or two from me and raise your games to John's lofty standards.

Kohli - may go up or down depends on future performances
Dhoni
Lara

In Tests

Gavaskar - 2nd Greatest behind Bradman

Sachin - 4th best after Bradman, Sunny and Sobers

Dravid - top 20 or 25 of alltime

Kohli - not a great yet (Smith miles ahead now) just very good. He is almost 30 and reached 50 avg recently. I think he will finish his career on Dravid or Waugh league. Gavaskar / Lara League no way.

There was a magazine interview of Tendulkar's. He was just 18 years or so, already speaking about comparisons with Gavaskar and Viv in past tense.

Wisden Selected Sachin as the 2nd best batsman ever when he was 27.
He was already in the league of next to Bradman even before he was 25 i think.

Kohli almost 30 and still not even close to his contemporary Smith. No one compares Kohli to the greats in tests. No alltime 11 features Kohli.

Also, almost all the guys in Next to Bradman league were sensational in their early 20s
Sachin, Viv, Gavaskar, Sobers, Lara, Hutton, Hobbs, Barry Richards , Pollock, Headley, Ranji, Trumper, Hammond..

Bradman and WG too.

That's a fair call out. Kohli even approaching 30 was under the radar and had to prove himself to be considered a proper ATG. Tendulkar earned that status much sooner, certainly around 25-27 years of age. So to compensate for late blooming Kohli would need to continue to be a gun for much longer than Tendulkar to be considered his equal? Very unlikely.

Personally, I'd jumped onto the "Kohli is a potential ATG in Tests" bandwagon after his dominant Australia tour in 2014-15, when he was just 26. Yes, he did not truly become the consistent machine he is now until late 2016, but scoring four hundreds on one tour in Australia for a visiting batsman is very, very special (I don't care how flat those pitches were and how many runs Smith made).

Tendulkar was basically considered the best after Bradman by many people by age 25. Absolutely bonkers to think about, really.

Yea I mean the fact that he could average 35 in his debut Test series against a Pakistan attack that consisted of Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Abdul Qadir and Waqar Younis at the age of 16 is pretty bonkers too. All flat pitches tho, TBF, but he averaged more than Shastri and Sidhu did while he was basically a child.

Yea - there's no doubt that Kohli will go on to easily finish up as one of, if not THE, best ODI batsman of all time. You can actually make a pretty good argument for him as already a better ODI bat than Sachin (World Cup performances excluded - see Lionel Messi vs Maradona). He's certainly going to break the ODI centuries record set by Sachin, by the looks of it. He's also a good bet to finish with a 50+ ODI average.

He'd do well to get to Dravid levels in test cricket - but there is potential (if he keeps up this 'peak' of his) for him to be considered in the Sachin bracket. Would be eclipse his status? No, I don't think that's likely. Not as a pure batsman anyway - but there is potential to do it as a player/cricketer overall; he'd have to be captain winning series outside the subcontinent, while also having good batting performances (or at least, if not captain, have gun performances in a team that wins series outside the subcontinent). In any case, he won't break Sachin's test records - probably won't even come close to be honest.

But there's no doubt he's a hell of a batsman.

Atm kohli is the best batsman obviously but let's put things into perspective. Even with his rich vein of form he still averages 7 runs less than Smith. That's significant. Also, he just equalled smith with hundreds. Both at 23 in a similar number of innings . Smith does have a few more 50+ scores which indicates to me, that he's still the more likely of the two, to put up a decent score once in. Cant wait to see what Smith musters once he returns from suspension.

Kohli avg was less than 50 for 90% of the career.

Kohli Odi stats were astonishing from the very beginning of the career.
But when I checked, the period between Kohli debut and Sachin retirement..

Declining Sachin's stats clearly better than sensational Kohli's. At least on paper.
Kohli 49/50 avg at 85 or so strike rate
Sachin 48/49 avg at 90 plus strike rate

Sachin was scoring 100s in every 6.5 matches during that period compared to kohli's 7.5

Another Fact,
When sachin was 28yrs old he was 165% better than previous International century aggregate.
Kohli almost 30, just 58 % of current record. I know its not a proper comparison.. Still

Kohli's single digit series against England in England and Australia in India are massive black marks to me. You can score mountains of runs later on but it doesn't make it go away. I suspect this will be held against him in the future.

Double digits in England actually (13.40 average).
Didn't realise he was THAT bad in the India-Australia series just now...he was in great form around the period.
