Reckon he was better than at least Hazelwood this series.
Wut? Hazlewood took crucial wickets which actually affected the outcomes of the games. Anderson mostly padded up his average either when the game was effectively over (Adelaide) or Aust trying to hit out after 550 (Perth)

He didn't get any wickets in perth once the game was over, he got his only wicket in the 32nd over claiming Warner for 56. Did you even watch this series

It's true that Anderson didn't do much when the game was actually there for the taking. "Padding his stats" may sound harsh, but there's an element of truth to saying that he often took wickets when it didn't matter.

Why do the Adelaide wickets not count.. he kept England in with a chance even if it was only a 5% chance.

If we are talking about this, current version of Jimmy, then no. It would be impossible picking him over Starc and Hazlewood. It would probably be slightly closer between him and Cummins but I'd pick the guy with more pace.

If we go back a few years then yes, that version of Jimmy trumps every Aussie test fast bowler this century except McGrath.

What has changed?

He is bowling as well as he ever was and ranked no 1 in the world. Apparently no drop of pace either

Number one rankings don't mean anything to me. Sport is more than just stats. Yes he is still bowling well but we're talking about him potentially bowling better than Starc, Hazlewood or Cummins, which he is not.

No i'm asking what he did before? I can't recall a drop in of pace unless we are going back to 2010

Burgey tagged it right above, he’d have been dropped long ago. Kudos to England for persisting with him through a hellish 3 year spell when he was the weakest link (when he was picked) before having aa complete Damascene conversion around 07/08 when he started banging them in on an almost perfect line and length with mundane consistency, whilst still maintaining the ability to bowl miracle balls when the mood took (see Brendon McCullum 2008 for example).

After Steyn and a completely focused and in form Mitchell Johnson, there’s not a quick I’d take produced in the past 15 years ahead of him.

Have to take into account the performances of the bowling unit though. We were absolutely thumped in this series. Broad was dreadful, our 'spinner' probably put in one of the worse series perfomances you'll ever see, and did we even have a 3rd seamer? Yet he still managed to bowl with an average of 27 and an ER of around 2. Quite remarkable really. Have to reason that with better support he would have taken more wickets.

Again, I am not knocking what Jimmy can do. It's not that long ago that he looked like pure magic here in the home summer. My point is, at this point, would the majority pick him over the Aussie pace line up, I just don't think so.
