So when nitpicking reasons not to like a player, often their away stats are brought up. Which made me wonder - who are the biggest away track bullies.

Min 2000 runs.

Hammond (66.32)
Hobbs (59.91)
Border (56.57)
Smith S (55.51)
Waugh S (55.50)
Hutton (55.29)
De Villiers (55.23)
Smith G (55.88)

Tendulkar is at 11, Sangakkara 12, Kallis 13, Dexter 14 and Dravid is at 15.

Openers:
Hobbs (59.16)
Smith G (55.88)
Hutton (54.53)
Gavaskar (52.92)
Gibbs (48.45)
Boycott (47.88)
Cook (47.86)
Anwar (46.55)
Sehwag (45.25)
Atapattu (45.20)

Langer is at 11, Kirsten 12, Gayle 13, Taylor 14 and Hayden is at 15 for openers. Gilchrist has the highest away average under 50 with 49.69.

to work out an away track bully surely you would work out the difference between home and away averages tbh

Probably, but even just going through this exercise has given me a new perspective on some players. Atapattu and G Smith for example are highly underrated.

Can't say it's surprising but still

the fact that literally two fifths of all the countries are conditions in which muesli excelled and another is the slow low zimbabwe mean it doesn't matter though

warne ftr i still prefer bc i'm an australian but still

I love my morning muesli. I can see it working in all conditions really. Except when I have a hankering for bacon and eggs.

Is monstrous.

Was pleasantly surprised to see AB so high as well. Still above Smith.
Is it really though?

55.88 > 55.23

edit: I'm guessing G Smith's is actually lower and that was a typo? Otherwise he'd be like 5th on the list

For Smith that's entirely understandable given that it's tough to open in South Africa, so you'd expect his away record to be better.

Marto. Had at least one strong tour to Eng, Ind, SA, NZ, SL. He said he preferred playing away, less spotlight. Should have cashed in more at home though.

Stephen Fleming, away average of 45 with 7 tons, home average of 33 with only 2 tons. 50+ tests in both.

Mohinder Amarnath, away average of 51.86 with 9 tons, home average of 30.44 with 2 tons. 30+ tests in both

Oh and Ajinkya Rahane averages considerably more away from home with 50+ averages and tons in England, Australia and NZ along with a good record in SA.

Real uphill skier that one. Ought to learn how to go downhill sometime.

Graeme Smith used to have a way better away record than home record for a while IIRC, or some other SA batsman had anyway.

Smith, AB and Amla all averaged low to mid 40s at home a few years ago. Don't know how much that's changed now.
