I know it's a long shot at getting 101 off nine overs, but I'm shocked Wellington didn't even give it a go last night. Surely worth a shot, just in case it's the one in 200 times it comes off?!!

Popli's season an excellent example of why you don't pick a guy on the back of one breakout year. Hopefully he learns from it, figures out what weaknesses bowlers have been exploiting and comes back a better player.

It was a little worrying that the Big Bash had to rejuvenate his love for the game. Speaks volumes about how **** our man management is.
As a leggie myself, there's literally no one to turn to when them dark spells hit. You really have to be self sufficient (moreso than others) as their is ZERO leg spin pedigree, nor knowledge here, its why the way to Test level in NZ in being left arm orthodox who can bit a bit ala Santner and Vettori in his final version. I been through it at 17's/19's level (ironically with a leggie like Strang) you'll find yourself being a lonely man, watching batting all rounders bowl before you. I still remember being picked in Prems as the number spinner only to wait until Anaru Kitchen has bowled 7 overs of non threatening part time spin. You kinda learn the attitude towards leg spin early on, and it can put most off. It's why so many promising leggies end up turning to middle order bats in the First Class setups, and someone like Ajaz who was a seamer at under 19's to get in the door, was told left arm spin was the only way he could progress further and look at where he is now.

I'm not sure it was a particular weakness bowlers were exploring. He had a shocking season in England club cricket.

But yeah, very disappointing that the likes of Smith, Young, O'Donnell all having **** seasons. The only positives I see are runs to potential future keepers Blundell and Cleaver, plus Bruce further confirming he's worth keeping in the NZ setup.

The swingometer says it must be swinging in Napier because Rance has 4 fer not much yet again. Just like the pink ball match, while Rance destroyed the top order, Milne was at the other end conceding hardly any runs but not taking wickets - wonder how he's bowling. Sounds like the sort of thing he does in ODIs i.e. hard to score off, though I wonder what his lines are like here.

Rance was outstanding in that pink ball match - wonder if he could be a bolter for the D/N test?

There's too many ahead of him you'd think, though it would be fascinating to see as a one-off if you could guarantee the ball would swing.

Rance is quality with the new ball. He's always been able to hoop the ball but now he's put on a yard of pace. Was noticeable towards the end of the super smash the year before the most recent one.
