I think that Lyth shouldn't be written off just yet.

The mechanics of his defence isn't bad. I think there is something to build upon.

His future in the team is based at this point on three factors.

1) How smart is his. Can he make the necessary adjustments to his approach.
2) How good the coaching staff is. Everyone needs help from time to time and he needs some sage advice.
3) How much grit he has. Alistair Cook has grit. This Lyth chap must learn to fight both for his country and himself.

I think I have seen enough to think he could improve maybe and would like to see him finish the series no matter what.
I agree, but outlined with those points it doesn't look too great for him. Guesswork obviously

I would almost put money on this, after he was somehow permitted to score a century at Centurion anything is possible with Darsh the Lesser.
Match winning 150 in the 4th test, King Pair in the 5th.

It wouldn't be Smarsh if there was any other result.

who is your big summer signing GIMH
Andy Mangan dropped down two divisions he was so keen to play for us. James Norwood turned down football league contracts to play in white. Lois Maynard quit his job to become a full-time footballer. And Jay Harris left the goats and took the trip up the A55/M53 to play on the right side of the bridge.

Or the short answer is Mangan

Looking at the Aussie batting numbers Voges has to go. Worse than Clarke and Watson. Marginally better than Haddin.

Rogers 385@77
Smith 354@59
Warner 269@44.83
Nevill 106@35.33
Watson 49@24.5
Clarke 94@18.8
Marsh 45@15
Voges 73@14.6
Haddin 29@14.5

3 out all out.

Suspect outside off stump, not something he'll improve any time soon especially against pace - no matter how gritty he is, how smart he is or how many million balls get thrown at him before series end. Scored a ton v us on a completely flat one and never looked likely apart, even on a Cardiff featherbed he looked harried outside off stump. Might need the next cab off the rank.

Left handed top order batsmen scoring tons against Boult - even on a flat deck - is pretty bloody rare these days though. It's definitely something that gives pause.

What gives more pause is that England simply don't have anyone else.

I just quietly think Voges has an Ashes winning innings in him. My prophecy.

If the ****s not dropped for tonight's game that is.

Well if he's dropped today then one of Plunkett, Footitt or Rashid is opening the batting
