This is the weakest South African team in the WCs till date. Time for AB to step up big time.

So AB will be the keeper for the initial part of the tournament, would be interesting to see who will open the batting while DeKock recovers.
Reckon it will be Rossouw.

Or they could open Faf and get extra middle order bat in.

Well... One does not look at the squad announced and say These guys can win it, does he?

Massively this. Ultimately while its a cert that both Ab and Amla will go down as test legends, their 50 + averages in ODIS won't mean to much if they don't perform in another World Cup campaign. Both have been sketchy especially in the knock out stages.

Yeah, a real under-the-radar squad at best.

2003 or 2011 our weakest before now one would think.

But I wouldn't say there is anything special about the other 7 major squads either.

Agreed. You could drill through a lot of the sides and point out possible flaws.

India
Bowling is a concern especially on flat pitches.

Pakistan

Very few world class Players.

England

Not in any ODI form whatsoever and not performed in a world cup for how long?

West Indies

Things don't seem to rosy in the camp do they? Not beaten a quality side in a ODI series for a while now and poor recent record in Australia.

Sri Lanka

Malinga fitness touch and go, no proven opener bar Dilshan.

NZ

Dangerous as usual, but didn't exactly inspire to much fear against South Africa last year did they?

Australia will probably turn up with less concerns, they have the best squad so they are deserved favourites but they aren't invincible.

Eh, reckon de Lange could have been selected.

Not the best side for sure, need our big guys to step up if we want a sniff of silverware.

I'd say that SA's 1992 squad to name one, was comfortably weaker, despite actually reaching the semis. Was a pretty mediocre World Cup despite the rose tinted glasses some people tend to remember it by, mind.

Be amazed if SA win this tournament - outside of AB and Hashim, their batting is a bit suspect.
Also, can't believe they keep picking tahir who is extremely ordinary.

Tahir is a good spinner in ODI's. Certainly, comfortably better than anyone Australia or "new sudden favourites" New Zealand can throw out. And the batting has De Kock, Du Plessis and Duminy besides those two. The lack of a real no.7 hitter capable of filling in a few overs is the major weakness, but not an insurmountable one. Far worse teams have won Cups before.

How'd Wayne Parnell get selected when Ryan McLaren was left out. Doesn't seem right.

Am surprised that none of McLaren or Peterson have been picked in the squad. That considerably weakens their lower order too.

Steyn won't like being reduced by AB and Amla to passenger status in the side.

Bowlers, who needs 'em?

Can the Saffers fake an injury and get Botha in the team? I'd take him in this form ahead of Behardien in the playing 11.

Boys play Sri Lanka in Christchurch in the first warm-up in the morning.

Some much needed time in the middle for Quinny hopefully.
