As this is the Matthew Hayden discussion thread. Was there ever a more awkward looking bowler than Hayden? He was useful with the ball though, probably underbowled throughout his international career.

I reckon that's said by every batsman who's ever rolled the arm over. There was probably reason why they weren't given more opportunity y'know, particularly to international batsmen. ;)

Roland Perry is a great one for that - in all his "Bradman's XI", "Ashes XI" etc books, I don't think there's a single batsman he doesn't describe as being potentially an all-rounder if their modesty or competing options hadn't stymied their bowling career! :laugh:

I only remember watching it from some Mercantile Mutual cup games in the late 90's.

One of my favourite remaining VHS tapes is David Boon having a bowl in an ODI in NZL circa 1994. Hayden and Boon in combination would make a laugh.

Hayden bowled some overs in THAT test at Kolkata in 2001.. But then again, so did every Aussie in the XI it seemed.. :p

The answer has already been given. Its is clear you either can read & comprehend properly or just dont understand how Hayden's career evolved. Since as i said before, the other AUS posters earlier in this thread that i discussed the points, agreed or came to same conclusion with the majority of the points. It is only you who have failed to grasp the logic. As i said before i put this down to you being a non AUS supporter who would not have followed Hayden's career very close or seen all his test matches.

It certainly is. Esepecially when other batsmen of the era such a Ponting, Dravid, Hayden (at the back end of his career), Lara, Sangakkara, Langer for eg. Managed to score runs equally well when they faced good pace attacks in bowler friendly pitches & joke attacks on roads.

CW views that as insulting?. Well i only started using it because i thought it was a way of politely disagreeing, instead of using the usual Cwisms in debates like WTF, errr. My GF does that to me in msn messnger convo's & i always find it funny. But ok...

Pace attacks, pace bowler friendly conditions or individuals bowlers (excellent/good/decent) who could expose post Oval 2005 weakness to inswingers. Which would be Ashes 01 & 05, Akhtar & Mills 2004.

Except you don't wish to discuss anything, you just talk down to others then when they point out clear flaws or inconsistencies in your argument or ask for proof of your "facts" you walk away.

It's not that it's insulting; it's just that you're the only one who does it and you do it extremely frequently. Lots of people don't know what it means and the last thing your posting style needs is more unique character, if you get what I mean.

Slater was bad, but at least he got a test wicket! Langer's off spin wasnt the worst, I recall him bowling to South Africa during an Aus A match in 97/98.
