Is India's period of being the most dominant side in history already over?

I think India had the potential to be a dominant test team if Ishant had fulfilled the promise he showed a couple of years ago. Like many others I think the kid is special and could have emerged as a top class test bowler but obviously it hasn't happened and SS's wheel of mediocrity has turned with a vengeance.

The other obviously important condition was that Zaheer maintain reasonable fitness and form. If Ishant had emerged as a leader of the attack supported by Zaheer, Bhaji and perhaps Sreesanth you have a good test attack capable of winning series anywhere in the world. Combined with the batting I could easily see this team winning in Australia and South Africa and establishing itself as undisputed no.1. It's unlikely to happen now and India will probably lose its no.1 ranking soon, possibly after this series.

Pretty sad given that it will be a long time before we see an Indian batting lineup as good as this one but as Indian fans we can be happy with the achievements of the last few years where India has either won or been competitive in every single series. We have won at least one test in our last 15 series including 6 non-BD tours.

It's a bit boring to watch India dominate tbh ,it was far more interesting to follow India during the time of Sourav Ganguly and Mohammad Azharuddin.

Looking at how India's team is managed, we wonder, is this management? So many good players have been lost, almost permanently, and the selectors are simply not keen on bringing them back, and the replacements are laughable. When a top-notch player is out of form, they inexplicably lay him by the wayside, and don't get him back even when he's doing well in the games he gets. Injuries crop up here and there, striking key players. Plans and strategies work against India like a charm, but no planning or strategy is done for the team or the players here. The coach has failed, the captain has failed, and I wonder if there's a fitness trainer or physio doing the job.

They have the players in and around the team to build a formidable Test team. They just don't put it to good use, and don't acknowledge that.

Pasag,

before you tear your hair in anguish, I suggest you get one of the moderators to change the topic to something like "How long do you think India will maintain its numero uno position?"

Haha, would make the thread unintelligible. It's fine anyways.

I think India definately had a chance to completely dominate back 2/3 years ago but now they concentrate too much on t20 and IPL is where they find their players, they need a decent system to find test quality players, not a guy who can slog the hell out of the park- people as promising as Karthik who I thought could have and should have been up there by now are lacking in the team and as soon as the big guns retire they are gonna need to remodel .

Don't think India will have that many problems with the batting even after the trio of Laxman,Dravid and Sachin retire.

Yes the replacements will take time to adapt and may not reach the heights these players have reached but do not think ,they will be glaringly worse.

It is the bowling ,specifically the pace bowling which is the major worry for India to be the top team and will be in the future.

I think Ishant and Sreesanth both will still do reasonably well in south africa and Australia.

Specially in Ishant's case he clearly struggles on sub continental wickets. Remember he was not brought into the team based on his domestic performances but rather on potential spotted by Vengsarkar.

The decline in our bowlers though is really not funny. Around our T20 win we seemed to have a surplus of fast bowlers and suddenly we have none. Mishra has been totally dire. 17 no balls. ****, I have not bowled a single front foot no ball for a long time now (have bowled balls above the batsman's head at times). This year's SA tour is going to be a litmus test for us.

Pasag trying to make reference to something most people don't get in a thread title has ruined a good discussion.

Solely Pasag's fault IMO.

TC I had to withstand 12 days in Adelaide.

Serious question, how does one buy groceries there after 5pm? Everything is shut.
