Bowling a doosra

There are two types of doosras. First one is realeased from back of the hand facing the batsman. This ball will spin away from RHB. But very difficult to ball without chuking. The other method is to keep the back of the hand facing away from your bowling side ear (for a off break it faces mid on and for s SLA, mid off) and spin the ball over the top of the seam. (seam position is like ||, for an off break its //, the doosra of first type it's \\). This one needs lot of revs to be effective however. Ball will bounce, and go straight. If it hits the seam it will deviate a bit in or out. If you have a nice loop and drift, the ball will keep going away and away from the bat. Then you have to bowl this closer to the stumps, and the angle will accentuate the effect.

I congratulate you on a very elaborate description of a top-spinner.

There is a difference between a top spinner and a doosra although bowled alike. Doosra needs hell of a lot of revs than a top spinner. There are local bowlers who bowl it, and it's distinctly different from top spinner with its trajectory.

I have got a different technique to bowl the doosra and i believe it is really impossible for the batsman to identify because the grip remains the same, the position of the palm and back of the hand remains the same. I bowl the off spin as a conventional off spinner does having the index and middle finger over the seam and releasing the ball with a roll from the index to middle direction. While bowling the doosra i again grip the ball between the index and middle finger only difference being in this case the index finger is on top position and then i roll the ball in the reverse direction i.e. from the middle finger to the index finger direction while releasing. I have found that this technique is really very good and provides good turn also like a proper leg spin.
