CW Colts Awards Night for Season XIV

We'll get things rolling with the One Day portion of the awards, followed by the First Class awards, Rookie of the season, Captain's award and then the Colts player of the season.

OD Bowler of the season
An area where we struggled greatly last seaspn, the OD bowling attack for us this season was superb, lead by the captain Wright, the rookies Spinks, Pimpkins and Hutchinson, while Wilson had a stormer of a season with the ball as well.
Spinks started the season explosively, tearing through top orders with ease. He slowed down towards seasons end though, while Kyle Wright went from strength, finishing with 37 wickets at a touch under 24, seeing him win the Colts OD bowler of the season award.

OD Batsman of the season
A two horse race for the most part, by two different styles of players in two different roles. Will Kerr started opening then moved to number three, trying to build an innings that the rest of the team could work on, hitting his maiden OD century in the process.
Daniel Towns takes out this award for his determined batting at number 5, saving the side on more than a few occasions to see us home. It's great to see the former international back at his best, and hopefully not for the last time.

OD All-rounder
Another two horse race with a winner who started the season as a specialist. Mike Wilson started the season at 3, bowling here and there before being given full responsibility with the ball and rewarding the faith with 18 wickets at 26, to go with 441 runs at 29 which secures him the OD all-rounder award.
He was not without competition however as rookie Andy Pimpkins put in an extremely promising season with both bat and ball. Perhaps had he not been absent due to a ban, he may have taken out this award. As it is, it was an excellent debut season which bodes well for his future, and for the Colts.

Overall OD player
There were a handful of candidates for player of the season, most of whom would be hard to pick amongst each other as to who was the best of the best. Dan Towns, Mike Wilson, Andy Pimpkins, Will Kerr, Nathan Spinks and Myles Hutchinson are the names that come to mind, but ultimately the honour falls on the captain and new ball bowler Kyle Wright.
A fantastic personal turnaround in form from last seasons OD disaster, his bowling confidence ran like a fever through the all seam attack, and fully deserves recognition for such a fine season. Congratulations!

Now to the First Class awards.

FC Bowler of the season
The FC bowling line up stayed pretty much the same throughout the whole season, only interrupted by international call ups. Unfortunately Kyle didn't quite continue on with his form from last season and finished with 61 wickets @ 42.
Tarick Weber exploded out of the blocks and it looked as though he would be the man to beat for top honours this season, but as it turned out, he slowed down and ended the season with 59 wickets at 33.
Mike Wilson once again supported well throughout the whole season. While he didn't take any 5fers, his gritty, tight bowling meant pressure was applied which paid off for the team as a whole.
The winner of this category is Greg Thomas, who not only made up for his poor effort last year but also bowled himself back into the test side. He passed 100 wickets for the first time, and took 9 5fers and 3 10 wicket hauls.

FC Batsman of the season
Like the one day bowling, there were quite a few people who could lay claim to this title. Dan Towns showed he could score heavily in both one day cricket as well as first class. Dan Rai had his breakout season as an opener, collecting a thousand runs with two hard fought centuries. Chris Butler looked patchy at first but hit the clubs only double hundred of the season, and continued to be the stroke maker at number four.
Rookies Dylan Cole and Andy Pimpkins started promisingly as well, while Bosco Fitzsimmons flayed the nations bowling attacks for three quarters of a season, with no less than 6 centuries and 6 half centuries, though fell away towards the end.
Again, there was one man who stood out. Continuing his incredible start to his First Class career, Will Kerr showed great maturity and his immense talent in his new role at number 5, and was recognised with a call up to the test side. This guy will do great things with the blade.

FC All-rounder
This section was dominated by one man in particular, though not without competition.
Mile Wilson wins in what probably is the easiest choice of all the awards. Tarick Weber exceeded expectations with the bat, cracking 5 half centuries at an average of 30, but Wilson managed 2 centuries on his way to making a thousand runs while taking 53 wickets in a great all-round season.

Overall FC player
Once again, like the one day section, there was quite a few candidates for first class player of the season which is great to see.
Simply put though, Will Kerr had another amazing season with the bat, making 1691 runs at over 60. Though relatively young in terms of his career, there aren't too many things left for this talented batsman to achieve in the first class arena.

Captains Award
Kyle Wright said:
Kerr - Had a wonderful breakthrough season, after an impressive debut season, last season, earned national selection and dominated in both forms of the game.
Rookie of the season
A few candidates here as well. Myles Hutchinson tore up the grade scene and took that form into the one day arena, and Spinks was a revelation with the new ball in the shorter format, but it was Andy Pimpkins who impressed most.
He bowled aggressively in one day cricket and provided some much needed late order runs. In first class his role was different; he batted with aplomb and bowled some tight spells in support.
It appears he has a great future ahead of him, and we wish him the best of luck!

Overall Colts player of the season

Put together, there were three guys who stood out in both forms that could claim this award.
Dan Towns put in a fine performance with the bat. Mike Wilson had a great all-round season in both forms.
The voters agreed that it was Will Kerr who is the Colts Player of the Season.
I'm not sure what else can be said really? He's had a magnificent season and looks to have started a fine test career as well. Congratulations Will! You've earned it.

Excellent write up Geg, and thanks for putting in the effort. Would like to congratulate the entire squad for our best season ever, and hopefully we can build on that and improve for next season. Congratulations to all the award winners, especially Kerr who has been a revelation at the club.

Thanks for the awards everyone, I've been really pleased with my personal performance this year :)

Though relatively young in terms of his career, there aren't too many things left for this talented batsman to achieve in the first class arena.
I wouldn't say that though, let's go out and win a trophy for the Colts!

Goals for the next season?

To be brutally honest, going by stats and whatnot you're down the list quite a bit...:(

Maybe change career options? I don't know. I'd love for everyone to be able to get a game.
