Why is it that brilliant starts by McCullum and Ryder are always followed by piss poor middle order collapses? It's become a real habit.

Isn't it just a rejig of our previous problem - top order collapse followed by middle order recovery - because McCullum and Ryder, whom on any other day could be No. 5 - No. 7 batsmen, have been assigned as openers?
