Andrew Bichel Tribute Thread

Love Andy Bichel, what a guy.

Reckon he should name his autobiography "Drinks are on me" I would buy it for the record as he's been just the ultimate professional for QLD, Australia and the county teams he has represented.

I hope he continues his association with QLD Cricket in some capacity too.

Loved Bichel. Watched him so many times rip through opposition batsmen at the 'Gabba, and man it was great to see. Bowled with such heart and commitment. Only Martin Love and Symonds left from the great QLD team of the late 90s, early 2000s.

All the best Bich!

What a gun performance against Eng at the WC, and his batting also against NZ:) Watching the 03 DVD as we speak

Well played Bich. He always gave the impression that he dead set couldn't believe how lucky he was to be playing cricket for a living, particularly on the international stage. I loved that attitude, wish there was more of it.

Andy has hung up the creams. The man was an absolute warhorse for Qld, however he came up just a little short in the international theatre. I always felt his trajectory was too flat to succeed on the big stage. But, hats off to Bich for a stellar career. The man did know how to mix a drink.

Highlight was surely the 2003 World Cup.
Really sorry, but initially when I read it I thought Bichel expired in some tragedy.

Then some relief.

Then a slight furrow of the brows and a soft sigh. For the man without whom WC 2003 might have remained a distant dream for the men in yellow.

A vastly underrated allrounder, supreme athlete and untiring workhorse. He did not deserve the treatment that he met at the fag end of his International career.

His abilities will see it to that he will triumph in whatever he indulges in the rest of his career.

Should always be remembered with gratitude by Aussie fans for his 03 World Cup. He was superb that tourney. Good luck to him, seems a great fella.
This, and....

Was a wonderful cricketer and a guy who gave it his whole whether he was playing for his country, state or county, was really hoping to see him turn out for a last time for QLD this season, but unfortunately that was not to be, anyways best of luck to him for his future endeavours.

I always liked Bichel - his bowling action epitomised his desire to put everything into every ball and he had a touch of the Aussie Battler about him.
This.

Was a great depth player for us in our glory days. Will always be loved, if for no other reason, than his epic aristeia at WC2003...

The courier mail had a fairly good article on the great man this morning. Was interesting reading a comment from Steve Waugh saying that he was always the hardest man to tell that he'd been dropped/was 12th man simply because of his commitment to the team.

Also worth noting that Bichel dismissed Lara 4 times out of a possible 6 in the 2003 series in WI, 3 of them LBW. WAG

And of course NSW is going gangbusters as a state huh?:-O
We might be struggling a bit, but we'll always be on a high knowing there's not too many QLDer's here. QLD on the other hand will forever have to contend with the fact that they're in a permanent NSWelshman deficit...one which numerous governments haven't been able to pull them out of. They're left to wipe their eyes on their non-faded curtains and try to take heart from being able to milk their cows on time.

Such a top player. His efforts against England in the 2003 World Cup made it one of my favourite matches ever. Fantastic bloke as well. Love Bichs.

Loved Bichel, his attitude, grace, precision, his height, his knack of getting the wicket at the right time, WAG, deserved more opportunity at the international level. Could see the guy just genuinely loved the game

I live near the QLD border...I've been waiting for daylight savings to start up there so I can open my curtain store. As such I've conducted extensive research into the way they live and breed. I spent 6 months at a Polish zoo studying a mating pair of QLDers. When they weren't pissing on each other and throwing poo it truly was a marvellous exercise which I enjoyed immensely. They were the first pair to mate in captivity, instead of the local park, neighbour's front garden, or the toilet at the local McDonalds.

I hate to piss in my own pocket...but in some academic circles I'm considered somewhat of an expert in the field

But we all do take great comfort in the knowledge that our state doesn't border Victoria. Whereas NSW on the other hand has to deal with the fact that it's full on New South Welshman and shares a border with Victoria. It's no wonder the state is so stuffed.
