Trouble in the English camp : Pietersen Vs Moores!?

I'm sure that Gooch would love being described as from the same generation as Brearley. :)
Ha, I knew someone would pick me up on that, but everyone knows what I meant.

Giles is an interesting call. My first thought is that he's too young and too recently retired, but I suppose he didn't play much test cricket with many of this squad. Personally I'd love to see Hussain in that role, but I suppose his other commitments would be a problem.
Hussain won't get the job, he upset the men in suits too much.

BTW, Pietersens statement seems to confirm he will tour WI.

I dunno - he didn't upset too many people when captain, did he? I just don't know how it would work with his Sky commitments.

And there you go, it's all turning out nice again. Duff coach gone, KP still on board, and Strauss in charge afaics. All we need is a sensible choice as team manager and we're laughing.

Strauss not up for that I don't think, strikes me more as a first amoungst equals sort of a leader. If it was Warne than would be a different story

Get Bumble on board as tour manager tbh

When did the role of 'coach' even come in anyway? always used to be tour manager and captain

Wrong precedent

How about no coach?

Strauss picks coaches (as in training coaches), and he (Strauss) picks the side.

Just a thought
It would be a farce if Strauss is allowed to choose a coach. The whole KP-Moores affair could have been then (farcically) solved by giving Moores the bye, and then retaining KP as captain and giving him his coach o choice.

KP resigns, Moores out, Strauss captain...all done and dusted
Well that was a damp-squib of a press-conference compared to what we were expecting, but all for good reason AFAICS.

As for Moody - best for everyone not to get hopes up. He's happy at home bringing-up his kids and I don't blame him at all for that.

I do hope Strauss doesn't end-up captaining the ODIs but I guess I'm moreoreless resigned to it.

You know, it's times like this that I'm always reminded of Mike And The Mechanics.

Think it would've been about 1999/2000. Duncan Fletcher changed everything, for the best at the time but I think it might be time to return to a stencil like the older one. Not the exact same though - the manager has to be a full-time role, not just ambassadorial on-tour.

That's not necessarily true, in a job that requires innovation. Which this one would, I think.
Duncan Fletcher was a brilliant innovator in so many ways. Trouble was that he just stopped in 2006/07, on some evidence. With 2 years to brood on that, maybe he might've learnt his lesson. I think he might've done immediately had he been given the chance.
Also, with the travelling and pressure associated with the job, I think five years is long enough to reasonably expect anyone to do it.
If you can handle the pressure and don't mind lots of touring you should be fine.

I know this is a ridiculous post, but I'm gonna let it fly:

If KP rejoined the Saffies, and Boucher retired...

Smith
Amla
Pietersen
Kallis
AB (wk)
Duminy
Prince
Morkel
Harris
Steyn
Ntini

What a dream team!

Yeah, that's easily the strongest lineup in world cricket.

Gus Fraser reckons KP will be telling his version of events in this week's News of the World, which may make some fairly fascinating/gruesome reading.
