Bachelor of Cricket Knowledge

Mister Wright

Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
Let's say Cricket Knowledge was offered as a four year university degree. What would be the subjects offered over the 16 semesters? You'd have to start with core subjects in the first year, and obviously more complex subjects in the last year. Would also need to come up with a variety of electives.

I'll start off with what I think should be included throughout the course. Add any ideas you have as you see fit.

Would have to be something in there about Twenty20, South Africa during apartheid and globalisation (new test nations, ICC Trophy etc).

NZTailender

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
Something to do with pitch preparation, statistics, the evoloution of the cricket bat, the art of swing bowling, the art of spin bowling, wicketkeeping 101...

If first chance average was a compulsory subject, I'd 'drop' out.

Hope someone gets that

The "first chance average" theory would perform a similar role to that of "logical positivism" in Philosophy: a theory with obvious flaws that's used as target practice by first-year undergrads.

Anyway:

Apartheid: cricket's part in support and in its downfall
Cricket in the caribbean: rise and decline thereof
Murali or Warne: who honestly still gives a ****?

The LBW law: history and proposed changes

The art of cricket trolling I & II. This course seeks to help students master the subtleties of infuriating cricket discourse. Statistical, misty-eyed, colonialist, Young Turks, all style will be covered. Includes weekly write-ups.

A couple of important ones

India vs Pakistan: History and Social Relevance

The Golden Ages of Cricket 1870-1914,1914-1939,1945-1975,1976-1995, 1996-2007 :)

There would need to be links forged with other departments of course such as:-

Physics – Theory and practice of swing and seam bowling

Food Science – Basic ball tampering

Chemistry – Advanced ball tampering

Statistics – compulsory module, naturally

Theology – for statto’s starting their own cults

Law – to teach the statistical theologians how to argue their cases coherently on internet forums

Meteorology – suggested thesis – “How Lancashire would win the County Championship every year were it not for the bloody weather”

Economics – suggested thesis – “How the clucking martlets finally won the County Championship after more than a century of consistent mediocrity"

I would say the advent of the ODI has to be in there...together with the introduction of Pro-40 and the 20/20..these are all evolutions of the cricket game.
