'The Aussies should be worried I am coming' - Sreesanth

RhyZa

School Boy/Girl Cricketer
This guy has some serious ego problems.

Not much dignity either.
Dignity? You guys really need to lighten up, there's room in cricket for non-dry, stuffy characters. He's given people props, agrees he is far from perfect, but obviously enjoys sparking the adrenaline and competitive spirit within the game.

Obviously there is a line that shouldn't be crossed, but I think he knows he needs to work on that. For India, the best case scenario is that he becomes a player other teams hate but would love to have on their side.

Same can be said about hayden's comments before this match.

I am not sure about sreesanth In odi's as compared to tests.Because in tests you can ball one bad spell and come back while there is no chance in ODI's.

I hope he gets verbally abused by the Australian crowds, if he acts like a ****, I hope they treat him like one..
Why can't he be more like Ishant Sharma? Been thoroughly impressed with him, and he doesn't seem like a tool..

Didn't Michael Clarke do that once?
"Bob Dole's a friend of the American people. Bob Dole."

Haha Sreesanth, love the guy so much, what a champ. Really hope he takes a (KFC*) bucket-load of wickets.

Going to take a sign to the Sydney ODI that reads "Don't worry Sree - I won't hurt you."

*gotta keep the sponsors happy.

Classic Nnaden. Hard to not like the bloke. Agree with his thoughts here.

Love it. As said before, definately room in cricket for more people like this.

And btw, for anyone calling him arrogant, how different is this to say, Glenn McGrath predicting a 5-0 whitewash before every ashes series (ignoring the fact he happened to guess correctly once).

The main difference is, McGrath didn't start doing that until he'd been established as a bowler of the very highest class for a good few years.

Of course not, but he had at least some excuse for his arrogant attitude. And in any case, I've always believed calling predicting good scorelines as arrogant is pretty stupid; would people have preferred McGrath said "we're probably going to lose"? Having a suerpiorist attitude is often greatly beneficial to players.

I heart Sreesanth. I don't think what he says goes too far. Sure he's ****y and when he gets pumelled, it's enjoyable to watch but he's got some good fight too. His spell in the 20/20 WC match against the Aussies was notable not just because he was quick, aggressive and almost impossible to get away. It was because he barely said a word all spell. Shows he knows when to focus. I think he'll be a dangerous bowler eventually.

Still doesn't make it any less arrogant.
McGrath had his tongue firmly in his cheek whenever he said this. And really what do you expect a bowler to say when a reporter asks him what the result is going to be. There is no right answer.

Am I in a minority saying I enjoy this? It may be immature, puerile and a blight on the (ostensibly) gentleman's game, but you can't deny it raises the stakes considerably for what many would regard as 'just another ODI series'. Frankly, I'd like to see some retaliation, maybe a little smidgen of 'just bring it' from an unauthorised Australian. It'd add an unworded stipulation that'd make the CB trophy mean so much more.

Equally, too, I don't see the point in moralising or drawing conclusions about Sree from these statements. It's been said before, it'll be said again, and the same reaction will be trotted out from the boards and pundits. The fact remains that people are drawn to animosity within any sphere, even cricket. Any attempt to suffocate this, for mine, would be terrible for the growth of the game.

Purists may decry the fact I take enjoyment from something other than the actual cricket. TBBH, part of the fun is what happens between balls for mine. It's what separates us from the animal sports.

Are you serious? tounge-in-cheek. I doubt it very much. IMO McGrath was always deadly serious.

Love the guy. He needs to keep himself under check and focus on the bowling, but he seems like a good guy with a lot of heart. Yes, he's a bit lacking in maturity and refinement at the moment. He plays with passion and he'll be a quality cricketer for India. Disappointed that a few here are actually taken aback by trivial comments that he made to the media.

There's a big difference from "playing with passion" to what Sreesanth has done, he has bent the rules more often than not.

Really? Please provide substantial evidence to show how he has "bent the rules more often than not".

His exchanges with Symonds in the ODI tour, batting waving antics at Nel, beamer to Pietersen and send off to Hayden at the 20/20.

I'm sure I've missed some other incidents as well.

That's not "playing with passion" as it's downright intimidation and unsportsmanship.

You make it seem as if all the other cricketers are innocent little angels that can do no wrong. Regarding Symonds, Nel and Hayden, I have a hard time imagining any of these three not playing a part in the build-up to those episodes. The Pietersen incident is the only serious one there but I definitely remember the discussion about the ball slipping out of Sreesanth's hand.

Sreesanth's sledging or behavior hasn't really been outrageous by today's standards but he looks really bad because he lacks refinement and restraint (that comes with coming from a cricketing culture where such things are more ingrained - no, I'm not saying that's a bad thing) and because he isn't a top quality cricketer yet. The latter fact may but should not have a bearing on our judgment of his behavior, sportsmanship, etc. He needs to stop getting carried away but not being as good as McGrath doesn't mean that his behavior should be more harshly castigated.
