There is a flip side. Womens tennis was hardly competitive earlier. Now there are many more players who can give competition and not just one or two players like it was the case earlier.

Power has come into the mens game as well. It is an aspect of tennis as a whole and not just the womens game. You may feel people like Williams and Sharapova are all about power but they are much more talented tennis players than that. A agree power has come in and people are right to complain about it. But to bash a complete sport just because of that is unnecessary in my opinion.

Exactly. Such a good point Pratyush. Power has come into tennis as a whole.

Bjorn Borg and McEnroe didn't hit the ball with anywhere near the force as Roddick, Safin etc. hit it today. Not even close. Why aren't we getting on the back of the men's players? Why can't Serena, Mauresmo or Sharapova smash a thundering forehand down the line?

6-6 in the final set of the women's final. Davenport won the first, Venus the second.

Stoked to see Roddick making it to the final. Too bad though about Sharapova.

She is young and will only learn from the experience. A very good player, she should have many more chances to repeat her triumph of last year.

i think the point that they are trying to make is that when it comes to power tennis, men have shown themselves to be much much better than women, i don't know whether the 500th ranked man can beat the top women players, in fact i doubt it very much, but the gulf in level of play is indeed vast....so the question was that if you want to watch top quality power tennis, why would you watch the women?

BBC lists Roddick as aged 29.

    Its a mistake surely?

Also I read some where Federer has won 20 of his last 20 finals which is obviously a mistake considering he lost to Safin in Australia and hasnt won 20 titles since then!

He lost to Safin in the semi-final. It was just so intense that it seemed like a final. Safin then beat Hewitt for the title.
Sreesanth said, "Next ball he was beaten and I said, 'is this the King Charles Lara? Who is this impostor, moving around nervously? I should have kept my mouth shut for the next ball - mind you, it was a length ball - Lara just pulled it over the church beyond the boundary! He is a true legend."

Can some one verify if Roddick's win loss in last 3 years on grass is 32-2, with the two losses to Federer on grass?
