Ahh, a good old piece of Italian cynicism, like mama used to make...

Never a good move. You can probably recall as many two-goal comebacks from Germany in big games as I can.

I luckily can't remember '70, actually probably want germany to win, not as strongly as some, but Italian football sucks, so if I have egg on my face I'll live.

Sensible move taking Mario off, makes it less interesting to watch though.

There's been a few since then. 1976 Euro final, 1982 WC semifinal, 1986 WC final all spring immediately to mind. Maybe 1974 WC quarter final as well? Plus the 1954 WC final, so I'm told. It's just what they do.

Did they come from behind in the 74 final?

BTW it was written in the stars that Italy would win the tournament as soon as the matchfixing story broke.

Our clean sheet against them looks impressive now IMO

Yeah, but they were only one goal behind in that match.

Ah of course

Still irritates me that they won that one, and it was ten years before I was born

Germans don't look much like scoring. Another Italy goal on the break looks more likely.

Yeah, I should have included that one in my earlier reply to benchy.

And I feel the same way about the Hungary final, which was 6 years before I was born.

On a different note, Klinsmann is so classy, isn't he. Really gracious about the whole thing in the BBC commentary team.

Disappointing result from a personal point of view, but clearly the better team won.

Love them or hate them but there is something undeniably magic about Italy in tournament football, sometimes they are a total shambles (last world cup) but then sometimes they go just go and be really good when it really matters.

Germany got their starting lineup wrong but really Italy were just superb.

Hungary one has got to be one of the worst things in Football ever.

Amazing really that the 54 & 74 Hungary & Holland teams didn't win anything. Probably two of the best teams ever.
