Australian test selection 2018/19

But you can drop Ferguson after 1? If I was Ferguson (or a few of the other blokes) and they picked Labuschagne I'd be livid
The way he was treated was atrocious. I'm off the belief that of a batsman is in a team for any reason other than injury he needs to be there for a few tests at least.

What a sad stage we're at, where we would usually shoot down any suggestion that a guy like Will Pucovski be selected with not even 10 matches to his name. But so dry is the desert, so lifeless is the Mojave of Australian batting that we have come unironically to thinking he's a real chance.

And he is, the selectors would do it.
He still has 3-4 fc matches before the team for the first test is chosen and if he knocks up a century in each then he should be a lock

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the "****ovski Pucovski" tweets after a few failures so it would be a crime not to pick him

Reckon Shaun Marsh will still get picked (as long as he has decent Shield form), in part because Oz cricket commentators are always rationalising his poor form; Mike Hussey was doing it multiple times on commentary during the match and Brett Lee appeared to be ready to go in mourning if he isn't picked for the Gabba.
Yeah in a world without Khawaja I could see Australia trying to rationalise it by talking up his experience etc.

Renshaw bats time. And he’s sitting on the sidelines over there while we get rolled for around 150 in each dig. Smdh
100%

Renshaw is the one I totally cannot fathom missing out. Is exactly what we need right now. Someone to grind it out.

Probably just habit, but the first Test is at Adelaide this year.

I hope he doesnt get picked but yeah they probably value someone who has shown the ability to score test tons ans will overlook the horrible starter that he is.

If Marshes get picked for home summer they'll probably do well and average 60+. It will still be **** though because then they'll keep their spots for the next away tours and **** the bed like they always do. Would much rather Maxwell/Ferguson/anyone else be given a home summer to show what they can do.

I'm not convinced on Ferguson. 35 year olds should have a stellar first class career to come into test reckoning. He's still averaging under 40. He needs to hit a couple of double tons to be even considered IMO. I'd actually prefer S Marsh to Ferguson. At least if S Marsh scores more than 10 he'll go on.

Maxwell, Renshaw and Burbs should all be ahead of both players though.

Mitch Marsh should be sent back to the shield for at least one season but probably three.

I mean Hayden had a couple of poor tests against the best foreign quick in the world and got dumped for 4 years. What more does Mitch have to do to be told to go back and do more work?

And I don't like picking WA batsmen. They seem to have the hardest time adjusting to overseas conditions.

Ehh, the previous generation I felt played pretty well overseas (Langer, Martyn, Hussey, Gilchrist, Goodwin). This generation is just kinda dodgy in general.

Please play them and bring them to England next year. Will be fun watching the Marsh boys fail miserably.

How has it already been three, almost four years since the last Ashes in England? How many ****posts could have been revoked to give me the time I needed to access life?

Darsh is 35, has no first class double ton, averages little more (and that's solely due to the Ashes) and his shield effort that got him recalled was an average of 38 with a top score of 91.

Yeah and I wouldn't have Marsh in the side. But between Ferguson and Marsh I'd take Marsh. You don't pick 35 year olds who have first class averages under 40. If I have to have one I'd take the one who had played a much of tests and has had some (limited) success.

Ravi Jadeja has a FC average of 45. Would he make Australia's Top 7?
Yeah but an Indian first class average of 45 is more like a Sheffield shield first class average of 35 so Jadeja would easily be picked as a specialist batsman under the current regime provided he was from Western Australia. He might even get a few overs on away tours.

Listening to Langer, I can't help but feel he's incredibly frustrated by these performances and would love to be out there himself.

He also talked about technique and how it is poor across the board. If he could be removed from the selection process I think he could be a decent coach.

Langer apparently said “you have to be a good bloke and you have to score runs.”

Basically rules out every great batsman since Victor Trumper. Onya JL.

Also said Darsh is a lock for the ODI side, so there’s no way he’s getting dropped for Brisbane, is there? Fmd he averaged three for the series.

Three.
