Lara may stage his own attack on this score when he plays in Bangladesh, but unfortunately the ground is not Antigua but low scoring Dhaka or Chittagong!!
Bangladesh plays the West Indies in the Caribbean, not in Bangladesh.

It will definitely be interesting to see how Bangladesh fare in a match on a strong batting wicket in the Windies later this year.
The pitches this year aren't exactly batting friendly.

What odds would you give on Gilchrist doing it ? He wont be short of time/overs if he opened and of opportunity if it was against Zimbabwe :sport:

Australia would likely be 5/400-odd if Gilchrist came in at his normal position. They would have to score at least 1000 if Gilchrist got 400. :p

400 will not be broken for a long time. Even with Australia touring Zimbabwe, Australia would rather go for a win over players setting individual records & thats the way the game should be played :)
considering they let him get 380 last time i dont see why they wont let him get 20 more runs this time...assuming he does get there.

The point is that last time it was Steve Waugh who let him get it and this time it's Ricky Ponting, who has made comments saying that he wouldn't let him. They call such things hypocrasy.

true but because the aussies play such attacking cricket it wouldnt take hayden more than 5.5 to get to 400, and therefore wouldnt affect the result all that much.
ponting stated that if he was in laras situation, which was 2.5 days into the test match on a flat wicket against a decent batting lineup he would have declared.

Erm, the West Indies in total didn't bat anywhere near 2 and a half days, just over 2.

Two days, one session, and half an hour = 2.42 days... All of 3% out.

Yes, but when the decision to not declare was taken and go for the record.

Also, bear in mind the amount of play lost on the 1st day...

Steve Waugh was the captain then & I don't think Ricky Ponting would let anyone bat for that long. The Australians would want to wrap up the games in the least possible time.

Was it David Hookes who was on about "lets finish them off in 2 days" or something? (when ban were in Aus last yr?)

43 overs lost to rain...
Has nothing to do with the fact that insufficient time was left to bowl us out twice.

The point is that the Aussies would not bat for more than two days in a first innings.

Going by Gilchrist's career Test strike rate, if he opened he could have 401 runs in say 487 balls.

Very unlikely though.

When I heard Hookesy first say that the match could be won in one day I couldn't help

Though you just never know, perhaps a test may finish in one day in the future :lookaroun

Yes, but the rain means that Lara's batting on isn't as bad as people make out.
