Great win for Bangladesh....Great recovery by Mushfiq (what a player his turning out to be) and Naeem.

Still think Rubel is is a pie chucker but sometimes pie chuckers deserve some glory too.

Corey's got a bit of a problem controlling himself, me thinks. A bit like Cairns use to, once he hits a couple of boundaries he seems to get overwhelmed with the urge to smash every other ball for 6. Hopefully he'll learn to reign himself in .

The balance of the New Zealand side for the first ODI was ridiculous. No surprise to see a big partnership develop once your open bowlers both finish their first spells when you only select two bowlers in the side. Neesham actually bowled really well but he should be the fifth bowler if he plays; not coming on inside the first ten overs because he's actually the third bowler and one of the openers sent down some pies. Nathan McCullum is also an irrelevance if he's going to bowl four overs and bat nine.

Anderon/Neesham's all-round capabilities are going to be a difficult one selection-wise. Neesham is probably good enough to be considered a proper bowler. Anderson's more than useful as well. I'd still be tempted to treat their bowling as more of a bonus, and avoid them taking up too many overs from the specialists (Milne/Mills etc), even if the team on paper looks a little ridiculous with a billion bowling options.

KW is out of the tour and now looks a long shot to be ready for the Windies series.

Cricket: Kane Williamson flying home after fracturing... | Stuff.co.nz

Ronchi is coming in, so presumably McCullum will be shuffled up the order and Ronchi will do the keeping duties. Still no consideration for BJ, despite the fact that he'd be a pretty good like for like replacement for Kane.
Watling was never going to get picked after not being named in the Taylorless/McCullumless squad for the Sri Lanka series. Ronchi makes little sense IMO with the amount of late order hitting already in the side and how gash he's been as an opener.

There's actually the genuine possibility of playing our 3 best bowlers and those two allrounders in test matches on certain pitches. Would be an interesting selection.

So thoughts on skipper for the Sri Lankan side now that Kane is out. Elliott would be logical choice, but it would not surprise me if they pick Latham. Slightly left field but maybe Taylor may cancel his trip home, and miss out on the two days of additional FC cricket that he was going to play by going home early.

Do you think the decision to send Taylor home with McCullum was to avoid the awkward situation of having him as the captain and Hesson as the coach again in the first place?

They have had 10 months to sort there s*** out they should be able to work together now! But I forget it is NZ Cricket.

I like the decision.

It places emphasis on the home test series - which is critical both rankings wise and public perception wise.

It also recognizes that Southee, Taylor and McCullum are critical to the team's success and all 3 have young families. Players like Williamson probably cope better with overseas tours than guys who have kids.

I agree with the reservation that there no FC cricket for them to play. During the course of the series 6 Nov (last game vs Bangladesh) to the first test vs WI there is only 5 FC games on

So none of the rested players will get a decent prep and will probably end up playing HRV cup.

Perhaps that's the real motive itbt. "Robinson and Hay? Come on, the ratings were building nicely for both of us last summer. How about Taylor."
