obvious vernon philander mohammed asif stuart clark etc etc response.

But yeah agreed, it's the same in NZ where you'll get a lot of pretty average medium pacers taking a lot of wickets season after season but it's unlikely they'll do anything at test level.

Don't give them another knock before the test. Seems fine to me.

True removes the chance for them to bat and tires their bowlers out too. Although the latte rpoint is kind of moot given its not till Thursday.

Difference between 79-81 mph, then getting it through at 72-74, most of those guys are tall too, so get bounce.

There really has been a lot of quite disappointing seamers on show in the County matches shown so far. Rushworth, Gidman, OHD, Rushworth, Patterson, Wagg, Riazadin, all lok average or worse.

I wasn't greatly impressed by TRJ myself, even though he's not the worst, certainly Finn the one much more likely to get Test Poles.

Overton, Wood, Topley have some promise, but nowhere near good enough yet. I'm oddly interested in Liddle as a limited-over player, reckon he could do a job.
    Do I contradict myself?

Went down today, disappointing lack of action after lunch. All I can say from the small amount I saw is that Bracewell bowled a fantastic little spell in the second half of the morning, looked quick and accurate, little bit of swing as well. Bopara was batting solidly, wouldn't have guessed he was out of form. Also Jimmy Taylor doesn't look any older irl.

Yeah just listening to Iain O'Brien's summary now, more plaudits for Bracewell. Says Bartin's action is really noticeably breaking down, puts it down to '****'s suddenly got real' expectation.

Anyone think it was an error to rest Southee and Boult against Derby? Southee, in particular, is only going to have about a dozen overs under his belt if he's fit.

Durg will presumably miss out on the lords test. Tough, as he didn't bowl badly by all accounts, but he really had to do something spectacular to push Wagner/Bartin out of the side.

Nah, I'm going in with four quicks and Williamson (who outbowled Bartin in this just completed match, again.).

Best chance to get 20 wickets, IMO.

I think it's what the Kiwis should do really.

Surely Bracewell should play instead of Bartin, unless the wicket is as dry as Mars (about as likely this time of year as playing on Mars). Bracewell can bowl outswing when it's swinging which it does tend to do at HQ when there's anything in the air although the wicket is invariably flat of course. Usually bugger all in it for spinners.

Martin didn't even keep it tight. Just pick the four seamers and get Williamson to throw down some spin if needed.

    Yeah, I went there.

No need to apologise for using the correct terminology

I'm always tempted by 4 seamers for NZ. Though we have been guilty in the past of not giving our spinner a reasonable run in the side to give them a chance to settle. Bartin would probably benefit from that.

But four seamers is still my preference.
