State Captain
Hughes, like so many of the Aussie batsmen, just does not work the singles off the spinners. He lets them rack up the dot balls before eventually going for a big shot.
Agree that is why Henriques went so well, he milked them for all they were worth. Hughes was just trying to survive and blind Freddy could see it was only a matter of time before he got a ball with his name on it.

Maxwell for a ton on debut. Just seems like the sort of bloke who would pull it out from nowhere.
In keeping with his lucky streak, it'll be after he smashes a full toss back at Ashwin who drops and breaks a hand

Apart from fielding well, anything decent that Maxwell does in this test will have come out of nowhere as he has done sweet **** all to deserve his place

And that's the point. Just seems like the sort of guy who will pull a rabbit out of a hat.

Even if it is Maxwell, I support any move to get us out of our ****. Even if it's Wade or Doherty.

The Maxwell fan boi speaks.

Yeah I like Maxwell but there's no he should be playing a Test as a specialist bowler or a bowling allrounder or whatever the **** he's been picked as at the moment. Certainly not while we've got Lyon.

Maxwell and Henriques are not Test bowlers and Doherty doesn't even count as a cricketer at all. We've picked a two man attack.

I mean really, does anyone really think the conditions here are going to be such that Maxwell is a better bowler than Starc throughout the course of a Test? Really?

Hughes has 45 runs at 9 so far on this tour and IMO has looked the worst against spin of any of the Aussies...and that is saying something!

Surely Uzzie has to get a crack in the next Test. And RE: Maxwell...the guy has huge talent but has done nothing to earn the baggy green.

Well his career stats are decent but his performances for Vic and Aus in the past 6 months are nowhere near good enough to warrant Test selection.

Would have much preferred that we back Starc in this Test. Based on the way the pitch is playing so far he could have been very handy...and it's not like he is a mug with the bat either.

Uzzie's just as crap against spin as everyone else afaic.

Is there anyone in Australian cricket apart from Clarke that knows how to play spin?

Unless there are injuries to Starc and Johnson that we dont know about, the selection has to be one of the greatest Hail Mary's of recent times and I would've thought that Clarke was smarter than this

On the face of it, our attack can be summarised as follows

Pattinson will likely be the best seamer on show but cant do it all himself

Siddle is a good bowler but looked well short of it in the first test

I can see Doherty doing "relatively" better than some predict but he isnt test standard

Mo cant be expected to do too much more with the ball than he did in the first test

Maxwell is just ****

So basically we are praying that Pattinson doesnt get injured, Siddle regains form and someone can bowl at the other end without getting smashed
