Well i dont follow Zimbabwe cricket THAT closely but i think Taibu should definately get in the team- he is a significantly better keeper than Flower and i think Andy needs to be a specialist bat and not worry about keeping as well. Plus Taibu is pretty gritty- he is one of the few zimboks in the history of their test cricket who tends to stick at the wicket and grind out runs- a perfect partner for Flower IMO.
Don't think that's true at all. Flower is/was a far superior keeper to Taibu IMO. I don't understand your comment that "Ray Price doesn't offer much utility with Strang in the team". Can't get much more different roles than that played by an off-spinner and a leg-spinner. Especially when the seam bowling resources are so weak.

Err NO.
Taibu is a significantly superior keeper than Andy.
And by similar roles, i mean that there is little to pick and choose between strang and price but strang can hold a bat. For a team with as weak resources as ZIM, i would look at the bowler's batting as well.

Well we'll just have to disagree about that. Certainly Flower's keeping was pretty questionable earlier in his career, when he was generally pretty reluctant and only required to do it for the sake of the team, but he had improved dramatically by the end and what I saw of his performances in county cricket compared very well with Taibu on the tour of England in 2003. Of course Taibu might have improved by then, but then when the ball never beats the bat and you have few catches to take it's very difficult to tell! :p

Of course the argument that Flower should not keep if it takes anything from his batting is fully justified.

As for the Strang/Price point - well being of similar standard is not a reason to leave one of them out, which you seemed to imply. Your comment was in response to a team which found room for both of them. You wouldn't leave one of Murali and Warne out of a World XI.

Wasn't Strang a leggie and Price a slow left armer?

In which case, they both turn the ball the same way, but Strang will move it more because of his action coming from the wrist?

Apologies. I got Price confused with someone else which slightly jeopardises my argument  8-)

Taibu probably should be there somewhere, but there is no-one that he should displace. Campbell is an option, but I dont see anyone else worthy of opening.

Duncan Fletcher *
Tatenda Taibu +
Heath Streak
Paul Strang
Ray Price
Henry Olonga

12th man (Not that he'd be much use, McGrath didn't call him fat for no reason) Eddo Brandes. I would put Price in my all-time world XI to be honest, but maybePeter Rawson would pip him on a seaming wicket if I was being purely pragmatic.

This is an interesting exercise

Zimbabweans of Colour XI

Dion Ebrahim
Stuart Matsikenyeri
Trevor Madondo (a life tragically cut short)
Hamilton Masakadza (Potentially the best black African batsman in history)
Tatenda Taibu +*
Vusi Sibanda (Use the talent, Vusi!)
Elton Chigumbura
Keith Dabengwa (better test record than Utseya)
Tinashe Panyangara
Henry Olonga
Douggie Hondo

Extras in the squad
Blessing Mahwire
Pommie Mbangwa
Brighton Watambwa
Everton Matambanadzo
Prosper Utseya

I couldn't decide between the four extra seamers and Panyangara, all of them are about the same level, but I gave it to Tinashe because of his immense potential.

I must admit I would not be able to pick a Banga or Zims team off the top of my head, but good to see we have members who can. I have been writing match reports from the Banga and SL current Test series, so I at least know a few of the players now. Which player would rank as the best so far?

I quite like the look of this team, would give most sides a run for their money.

Not bad. I would drop Reid for either Taylor or Bond to improve the bowling firepower. Reid may have been a legend of early New Zealand cricket, but during his time New Zealand practically never won a match and he was a bits and pieces player really.
