You obviously didn't see the tour of England. Possibly the worst series of "batting" I've ever seen from anyone.
oflQuite possibly.
And he played one shot which I consider to be one of the very worst shots ever played by a specialist batsman. Consider the situation : Dravid is looking as solid as a concrete dam and looks as though he could bat all week and not get out... He's just lost Yuvraj with whom he put on a partnership which puts India in a good position. And this stupid **** the captain, instead of hanging around to support this genius batsman plays his trademark pathetic "drive" and dollies it to the slip. That collapse would never have happened if it weren't for Dhoni

And given how clueless he is about his own batting, how on earth does he expect to have an impact on his teammates' batting when they're going through their own struggles? I just hope this next generation can find good guidance on batting elsewhere if/when their techniques are exposed or they are out of form

Talent wise, India has a nice pool of cricketers who can serve the country for long. But barring Pujara or Rahane, none of them have the attitude of the recently retired Indian batting legends. They need to keep their feet on the ground and keep learning instead of getting carried away with success.
Certain things like over exaggerated celebrations, abusing and getting into verbal spats with the opposition, etc. actually doesn't appeal the people of India and also sets a wrong example for the future generation. That is also one of the reasons why they won't receive the love and admiration which guys like Sachin, Dravid, Laxman, etc. got from the cricket mad fans of India. Some of these guys might just vanish from the scene due to their poor attitude.

If you were Dhoni how would you go about batting against good fast bowling? His bottom handedness means he'll never be able to play shots outside his off stump when the ball is moving, especially early on, so should he completely take that out of the picture and maybe look to hang around for a bit? Not sure how successful that will be because any good bowler would then start bowling slightly closer to the stumps and I'm not sure he can resist playing that stupid backfoot flash of his. Or should he just go all guns blazing like he did once or twice in England?

Assume the match situation is not a factor.

Maybe he could try substituting that "flash outside off and nick it behind" shot with that slightly jumpy leg glance he plays at times to deep square leg. Have seen him do it in ODIs to balls on a good length. Slightly less risky. Or maybe the short arm pull to good length balls where he crouches slightly. His likelihood of getting out increases a lot if he could just put that shot away but he won't.

Somewhat a la Graeme Smith? Not a bad play, but requires more intelligence than MSD has.

Yeah that **** me. Series was done there and then.

I was at the ground at Lord's second innings so never saw his dismissal properly on TV, but he wafted outside off to get out there too right? It wasn't a ridiculously good ball was it?

I mean at tea with him and Raina at the crease a draw was still possible.

God he **** me in 2011/12.

The thing is, when Dhoni won us the world cup final I was so over the moon that I thought to myself that Dhoni can do whatever the **** he wants for the next year and I'd be ok with it... The **** made me hate him again in a matter of months

Zol has begun to open the batting in fc cricket. Hope he guns it for one or two seasons and gets into the test side.
