After "Viv followed by daylight" article in 'stats from the past' feature, Cricinfo has done one on ODI bowlers using a very similar approach.

Stats from the Past: The best ODI bowlers from across eras | Highlights | Cricinfo Magazine | ESPN Cricinfo

Here is their final list:

Code:
[B]Bowler Matches	Wickets	Ave*ER/6	Overall ave*ER/6	Ratio[/B]
Joel Garner	98	146	9.70 19.73 2.03
Glenn McGrath	250	381	14.24 25.09 1.76
Richard Hadlee	115	158	11.86 20.85 1.76
Shane Bond	82	147	14.89 25.95 1.74
Shaun Pollock	303	393	14.99 25.39 1.69
M Muralitharan	350	534	15.12 25.34 1.68
Curtly Ambrose	176	225	13.99 23.23 1.66
Michael Holding	102	142	11.82 19.60 1.66
Allan Donald	164	272	15.06 24.39 1.62
Andy Roberts	56	87	11.53 18.49 1.60
Thoughts? Hadlee has been a tad under-rated as an ODI bowler, I feel.

How would I rank the 15 best ODI bowlers of all-time? I think I'll go something like this:

1. Muttiah Muralitharan
2. Glenn McGrath
3. Joel Garner
4. Wasim Akram
5. Curtly Ambrose
6. Shaun Pollock
7. Richard Hadlee
8. Saqlain Mushtaq
9. Allan Donald
10. Shane Bond
11. Brett Lee
12. Shane Warne
13. Waqar Younis
14. Kapil Dev
15. Michael Holding

wow.....weldone, you would rank Shane Bond ahead of Waqar and Warne?
Yes, though I don't see much too choose among Bond, Lee, Warne, Waqar and Kapil strictly as ODI bowlers. Needless to say that I consider Warne and Waqar to be HUGELY better than the other 3 in the longer version.

What is Agarkar's ER by the way.

i remember that he had a stellar start to his career. He was going great guns in reaching his first 100 wickets IIRC
