I consider Dravid in his pomp to be the 4th best batsman I have seen in my 20 years or so of watching cricket. Had his pomp been a couple of years longer he may have been even higher.

Maybe an all-time great.

Was thinking before about what my personal definition of "all time great" is. Is "all-time great" something that transcends numbers, or is that something more like a "legend" of the game? To me, Dravid wouldn't qualify on this level.

Is all-time great someone whose achievements compare favourably with anyone throughout time? This probably is what I'd classify it as; someone for whom there is no reason to go, "Yeah, but if ...", "His numbers might not say it, but...". Dravid is definitely a member of this category for mine.

Dravid will be a great, but always in Sachin's shadow. Like Kallicharan who is mentioned after other WI batting greats are mentioned despite being very good.

I think Laxman would come into that bracket ,Dravid will always be not far behind off sachin ,specially if he has a resurrection.

How can anyone nicknamed 'The Wall' not be an all time great.
I dont think too many other ppl can claim that title.
