*Official* Australia in England T20s and ODIs

Bresnan just isn't good enough to bat at International level simple as that. Been reasonably impressed with his bowling, but watching him bat against Lee, Johnson, Bracken and Watson is just painful, he really doesn't have a clue.

So what did Clarke do wrong last night?
Clarke played a very sensible innings. Sure it wasn't exhillirating, but it was certainly good in the context of the match.

I'm not much a fan of all this Clarke hate. If England scored a total of 350 and he needed to score at over a run a ball then I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt that he could, until proven otherwise (and one scorecard from a few years ago of him failing is not enough evidence).

Quite frankly I'm sure if anyone here was playing for Australia and came out to bat in a winning position chasing a feeble England total most of you would plod along with a strike rate of around 60-70 without taking any necessary risks. I know I would.

Ponting's not at his best any more though.
Though he is still our best batsman by some distance, as compared to the period between 2005-2007 his form in the recent times has been slightly patchy, but still his stats in recent times are hardly bad enough for his spot to come under the scanner.

Agreed that White has played well in this series, but he has hardly done anything extraordinary for any of us to even think about whether Ponting should have replaced him at no.3 or not.

Despite getting off to a swift start, he again got bogged down yesterday when the quicks came into the attack, though his innings yesterday was definitely an improvement from what we have been seeing from him in recent times, showed a bit more intent by using his feet aggressively to both seamers and spinners, but still there is a lot of scope for improvement.

On an another note, did we use our batting PP yesterday..?

Eight of the side didn't play in the 5th test. No Ashes hangover excuse.
Has England actually cared about anything else then winning the Ashes, it feels as far as they are concerned, as soon as they won the Ashes it was the the end of the English summer for them, and atm they just seem to going through the motions in this series.

Its also been fairly annoying to hear the English commentators time and again whining about how England are handicapped by the absence of Flintoff and Pietersen, agreed both those blokes are fine players, but two individuals alone can't carry the dead weight of a whole team, had it been possible England' performances in the limited overs formats won't have been as dismal as it has been in the last few years.

For me guys like Trott, Mascarhenas, Foster/Davies should have been playing in this series, and the emphasis from the ECB should have been on picking some good specialist limited overs players, rather then just backing your test players to come good in the limited overs format.

What you basically are saying is that we did well in this series because White stabilized things batting at no.3, which is something I don't necessarily agree with, yeah I agree he has done well (both for himself and his team) to score consistently in this series.

Though he has scored these runs against a side that seems to have surrendered this series a long time ago, and still against that sort of an attack, in pretty good batting conditions, he has hardly set the world on fire.

In all of his three knocks he has generally got bogged down at the start of his innings, and in the 3rd ODI he was only able to lift the tempo of his knock during the later part of his innings, that too after surviving two close calls, had he been playing better sides he won't have had the luxury of batting at no.3 the way he did against England.

Ponting's been all over the shop for ages in ODIs. It was White who has stabilized that position and one of the reasons we've been successful this series so far. Ponting doing well now, he's a champion of course, but the guy he replaced has been the best bat this series on either side.
These are the points I'm debating, tbh. White has hardly done anything great batting at no.3 and his batting hasn't been much of factor in us doing well in this series, and neither has he been the best bat on either side, the best bat from either side without doubt has been Callum Ferguson and that too by some distance, and even Strauss has been better than White considering the fact he is the lone ranger in that English side.

As usual you are missing the entire point and only picking up on a minor debatable detail before going on a long winded wall of text rant which makes little difference to the point I was making.

Our performances hadn't been that bad over the last few years, though. We were awful in India in the winter but before then, we were inconsistent but certainly not dismal. We beat South Africa 4-0 at home last summer. Flintoff & Pietersen certainly do make a difference. we should be able to cope better without them, though.

Have to say the obvious here. Australia are no where near the side they were a few years back, but Jesus England are utter ****e at ODIs.

4-0 is nice for our blokes, but it all rather feels like having to settle for a bowl of cashew nuts after being denied the Christmas dinner.

Just one of those small bowls that get put ont he coffee table when people come over. That sort of thing. Not like a giant bowl or anything like that.
