J.P. Duminy Opinions & Predictions

gettingbetter

State Vice-Captain
If FC records and his performances in the limited number of ODIs he has thus far, he appears to be on the verge of being a very good player. I've liked what I've seen of him so far in ODIs, seems really composed and has a wide variety of shots.

Only issues is that he won't get a game for a while I don't think. South Africa appear to have a relatively solid line-up, and now with MacKenzie, Amla and AB scoring runs, he will only get into the team with if any get injured or if Prince retires soon. But he is easily, the next one off the rank.

Duminy being picked for the wrong game-form isn't helping him, but TBH I think he's got more shots and a better technique than just about anyone apart from Kallis in the current SA side. If de Villiers is going to bat down the order, I don't really see why he isn't given the gloves with Duminy replacing Boucher.

Maybe because Boucher is the best wicket keeper of all time. He shouldn't be just forced out of the team like that although that could happen when he retires.

Hahahaha... no, Boucher isn't the greatest wicketkeeper of all-time. He's a good, solid merchant who doesn't miss much and no more.

And even if he was the greatest wicketkeeper of all-time that'd mean diddly-squat if his batting wasn't up-to-scratch. You get more from a good wicketkeeper (I've seen nothing to suggest ABdeV isn't such a thing) and two high-class Test batsmen than a brilliant wicketkeeper, one Test-class batsman and a useful lower-order player.

Boucher surely is one of the best world of Cricket ever witnessed!

About his batting, he did well in 3rd game against England...if he hadnt stayed there @ the crease with Smith, England would have easily won that game!

Hmmm sure looks like an okay keeper to me. And Keppler Wessels is always expressing concern about what they will do when boucher leaves as he is a better keeper than de villiers. And De Villiers dosen't keep to often anymore.

And Boucher has hit 28 50s and 4 100s in his test career. So why just leave himout of the side to replace with a worse keeper. Duminy should be aiming for the spots of mackenzie, amla and prince not hoping they will drop the best wicket keeper of all time to give him a go. When Boucher retires that is fine do it then but you can't force him out.

That probably will happen when Boucher hangs up his gloves. Do not know if it will be bad for De villier's batting average.

Boucher is a world class keeper but that does not mean AB can't keep. though in the long run he would probably be best served to focus his energies on batting

yeah don't know if i'd like to burden devilliers with that, but then he may well handle it well, no other keepers in SA ?

Yes, because he is an OK keeper. He's a damn good one in fact.

You, however, need to learn the difference between "taking most catches and stumpings" and "being the best wicketkeeper ever". Catches and stumpings are entirely dependant on how many you're offered - ie, how many matches you play and what type of bowler you have bowling at you.

It's how many (or, rather, few) chances you miss, not how many you take, that shows how good a wicketkeeper you are.

Okay well you said in your first post he didn't miss much. So obviously my point still stands. He has had very unpredictable bowlers like ntini and donald to contend with.

How the hell are Ntini and Donald unpredictable? They would probably be one of the easier bowlers to keep to as there both consistant bowlers. If anything what would possibly stop Boucher from being considered a great is the fact that he hasn't really needed to keep to a lot of quality spinners to often, and as anyone who has kept wicket will tell you, its a lot harder keeping to spin then pace.

Well he also holds the record for the least amount of byes let through in a series in india. This really convince me what a terrific player he is.

The fact you think various things prove something they have never come remotely close to proving nor will ever come remotely close to proving.
