Why would you do that? I think it's fairly clear Rohit Sharma is a better batsman, and has much more potential.
Indeed, but you can't take potential for too much salt within a form rotation system. Robin Uthappa has a respectable start to his ODI career (against Test nations as well as excluding Bangladesh) with 682 runs at 28.41 with strike rate of 95.92. Compare this to Rohit Sharma, who under similar parameters, averages 27.41 with strike rate of 74.77.

Agreed entirely with that team. I've still got reservations on whether Irfan Pathan is good enough to be selected primarily as a specialist bowler, as he's been going at 5.5 an over this year and his average isn't particularly impressive either. We all know he could be a competent #7 but at the moment his batting doesn't justify selection as an all-rounder, and until his economy rate improves I'd keep a close eye on him,
Injury prevented him from going to the MRF Pace Foundation to discuss technique with Sekhar, but hopefully, he will be able to make another appointment and amend his action further. The areas of focus should truly be carry and ensuring that the ball is not pushed too far across to outside off stump.

Nice partnership being built by Mushfiqur and Kapali here. Question is, can they carry on for a few more overs...

Surprisingly gun innings from Alok Kapali so far. This tournament could quite possibly have been last crack at international cricket with the way Bangladesh's selection policy seems to work - I'm glad to see him take his chance as he's scored highly at domestic level of late.

Wonderful inning by Kapali. Loved the composure and then the hitting. Bangladesh posting a competitive total which will make the Indian inning a decent watch.

Obviously one of the best innings by a Bangladeshi ever. Let's see if his legbreaks can pose a threat...

Man am I glad I stayed off the booze tonight and watched this.

I don't have words to do justice to that innings. Alok Kapali in full flight is something Bangladeshi cricket fans have been been dreaming of seeing for years now, more in hope rather than expectation. With this innings he's fulfilled those dreams, and then some.

Kapali always had that something about him. His 89 against WI was a majestic effort. Now he is more matured, and there was no question about his class as a batsman. When I first saw him pulling a 143k back of a length delivery from Fernando in front of mid wicket for a six, I thought he's gonna be the next star. But he ad tempremental errorrs. Hope he bats with common sense after this.

Sensational innings from Kapali by the sounds of it. Good stuff.

Not sure why India selected Ohja for the match though, also relying on ten overs from Yusuf Pathan wouldn't give me a heap of confidence.

I know it can't hurt to give these youngers guys a crack, but I do feel India need some consistency with their selection and allow the incumbent (in this case Rohit Sharma) the chance to settle in the middle order. By doing this the player in question will gain more confidence and feel more secure about their position in the side, allowing their mind to be free to focus on their batting.

Rohit Sharma has, to an extent, proven himself to be a good middle order batsman. Admittedly he's only played 14 innings there against ODI standard sides, in which he averages 32 with a strike rate in the mid 70's, but he showed during the Commonwealth Bank series that he has plenty of maturity and can handle the pressure after playing a couple of vital knocks. Coupled with his feats in domestic cricket and his natural ability and I don't think there is any competition between him and Uthappa at all.

Uthappa has potential too, don't get me wrong, but I've read things about him not being mentally strong enough at this point in time. Is he prone to brain explosions? I've only seen him bat a couple of times and was fairly indifferent towards him as he didn't make any big scores. Also, from what I can gather he isn't a middle order batsman. All of his success in representative cricket seems to have come when he is opening, and with Sehwag/Tendulkar/Gambhir and maybe Ganguly competing for the two opening berths I just don't think there is room for him.
