I presume this is a Test in question, if so I've been to the opening day of these two games, and the team ignores whether or not they took the field on the day in question. This is taking into account a career, not how the player in question was at the time of the game nor how they performed in said game.

Interesting exercise.

The matches I've been to were GABBA Tests in 2001, 2002, 2003 against NZ, ENG and IND - I picked the South Africa guys from an ODI match I watched between SA and NZ and I watched Murali play for his County in a match at Lords.

Some players are debatable as I went for Kirsten over Langer..

Best innings I've seen live have been..

Chris Cairns 102* off 99 SA ODI
Matt Hayden 197 against ENG

8. Shane Warne
9. Curtly Ambrose
10. Courtney Walsh

Taking into consideration the player himself, not the performance in the given game.
If I considered the performance in the game, Mark Ramprakash would be there. He scored a ton in the only game I've seen him live.

Does it count if I saw them play in something that wasn't a test?

Phil Jaques
Marcus Trescothick
Viv Richards
Doug Walters
Kevin Pietersen
Andrew Flintoff
Romesh Kaluwitharana+
Brett Lee
Stuart Clark
Glenn McGrath
Stuart MacGill

Bit of a reach there, really only seen the NSW-England game last summer, while Viv, Doug and Kalu are from various Sixes tournaments.

12th man: Graham Thorpe

Close calls: Chaminda Vaas, Marcus Trescothick, Stephen Fleming, Shivnarine Chanderpaul

Could feature in ths side one day? Dwayne Bravo, Nick Compton, James Anderson, Alistair Cook, Ravi Bopara

Odd that I've seen many excellent international class batsmen but few bowlers of the same quality. I suppose that is indicative of the current county cricket scene, and arguably game across the world too I guess.

FWIW, I included county cricket too, but most of the players I chose I saw in Tests or ODIs anyway.

Close: Vaughan (almost tempted to put him in there because of that series), Bichel, Ntini, MacGill, Stewart, Trescothick, Gibbs, Hussain, Yousuf

Only ever been to five tests (England '06, RSA '05, Pakistan '04, Zimbabwe '03, England '02). Undoubtedly Tendulkar will get a start after this summer.

Could change a few names easily though. Going to games like the Tsunami Appeal match and the Super Series has meant I've been able to see quite a few of the 'stars' in action.

I can barely remember what matches I've been to, let alone the individual players I've seen over all the years. All I know is I saw Marto make a ton at the G in 2004 and that's all that matters really

Oh dear, Phlegm. No cricket up in the 'Naki then??

This is a tough one. So many games to choose from... I'd say:

Graham Gooch
Desmond Haynes
Mark Waugh
Aravinda de Silva
Martin Crowe
Richard Hadlee
Adam Gilchrist
Shane Warne
Malcolm Marshall
Curtley Ambrose
Waqar Younis

Current players who'd come close: Matthew Hayden, Jacques Kallis, Ricky Ponting

Not Terrible
Been to a few when younger but none in years (Martin was still a legend), don't live anywhere close and my family doesn't like cricket. I'm screwed. Should be better when I live in da' city.
