Grittiest XI

Pick an eleven on the criteria of gritty tenacity, "never say die". Batters who best defend their wicket in adversity, rather than strokeplayers, bowlers who never drop their heads, even when its 340/1 on a belter and 40 degrees in the shade.

My initial thoughts
David Boon
Bill Woodfull
Dravid
Border
S. Waugh
A. Flower
Imran Khan
Kapil Dev
Warne
Lillee
Spoffoth

LongHopCassidy

International Captain
1. Justin Langer
2. Rick McCosker
3. Rahul Dravid
4. David Boon
5. Allan Border*
6. Steve Waugh
7. Rod Marsh+
8. Wasim Akram
9. Merv Hughes
10. Andy Caddick
11. Abdul Qadir

Kepler Wessels must be on that list.

Tough, uncomprimising and looked like he was carved out of stone.

Became a successful Test players by making the most of his talent and never possessed the ability to play more than 3 shots.

In my dictionary the definition of gritty

Gritty: See Wessels, Kepler

Swervy

International Captain
got to get Bruce Laird in there..he was always described as gritty, or gutsy or brave or whatever

BoyBrumby

Englishman
Boycs would have to be there for me, possibly Gary Kirsten & Rigor Richardson too.

On the bowling front I'd have to have McGrath in any gritty XI. He nags away with such unerring accuarcy & persistence.

Not a bad team actually a bit light on the bowling front, but then again this team wouldn't be bowling that much really.

Brierley was hopeless as a batsman.

LE would know the surname of the English batsman David _ who blunted the Windies in '76 despite having no claims to fame whatsoever. Now that guy epitomised grittiness.

David Steele, and his best moments where in the summer before against aus when he was hooking Lillee and Thomson off his nose.

And to be fair Brearley was a very defensive and gritty batsmen even though he was quite poor.

There's no way you can exclude Border from this kind of team.
