England team awarded MBEs

So these things are given out in brown paper bags?

Most irrelevant award ever?

Well, these awards are pretty irrelevant these days, and a bit of a laugh. Good on 'em, they gave a lot of English kids hope and joy - spare a thought for all those poor fans now in their 20's and 30's, who lived through the horror and have the traditional lack of faith and mental scars to prove it.

Bit of an FU for Cooley though.

I was listening to this English Journo on Radio called Dickinson who was laughing about the whole thing (His name was Dickinson or some such name). It seems Her Majesty has been extremely generous in awarding MBEs , OBEs etc, with not only the Team, but also David Graveney getting an OBE ( as opposed to players like Freddie, Harmo, Tresco only getting MBEs) and apparently the Team Manager (was it Phil Neale or some such bloke) also got an OBE .

If IIRC Her Majesty only gave a few of England's Rugby World Cup winning team MBEs . So it would seem Ma'arm favours Cricket over Rugby !! :D (and Ashes are held in higher regard than World Cups ) :D

It seems Lord Coe who is already a member of the House of Lords was bestowed with an additional KBE for his efforts in securing the Olympics for "Angleterre" ! :D

This would seem meaningless in that he was already a Lord , in that now he becomes -
" Lord Sir Seb Coe "

This journo joked that at this rate if Seb Coe achieved anything further inhis life , Her Majesty would have no other option but to make him King of England !

If they've knighted Seb, the bloke that mis-counted the votes should be made King.

No I think practically the entire squad (squad not team) got one.

According to an article I read (maybe some British bias) it wouldn't have made much difference.

Of course. Especially as the whole story was balderdash.

Hmm...Geraint and Collingwood deserved it?
 Imagine if they said, "Sorry Paul and Geraint, but we just didn't think you contributed enough towards the cause.

Here, have a corgie".

Only the English womens cricket team captain was given the OBE while the whole womens team won the Ashes.

Bah.

This despite the Queen being a Woman herself !!

The Womens Team won the Ashes after a long hold by the Aussies in Womens ashes as well. Talk about double standards . Particularly when even team manager of the mens team, and all bar the baggage boy gets OBEs !! :D
