Meh, better than training 20yo's. I'd much prefer a 17yo respectable batsman to a 23yo strong (which is why I'm going to sell him at the end of the season).

What do you expect to be better than a 17yo respectable (and one who will be a very decent keeper within a season if you train him)? The only thing better is a 17yo proficient. If you've got a 17yo respectable and a competent already you've been pretty damn lucky. Seriously, a lot of teams have had far, far worse YPs than yours.

So close... I'll have to search on Battrick to see if there are any namesakes on there.

I can't compare my levels from when I started because the fitness is different, but these are the averages in ratings:

    Top 7: 5.3/3.7 batting, now 6.3/4.6 batting (3 = woeful, 4 = feeble, 5 = mediocre, 6 = competent)
    Best 5 bowlers: 6.0/4.2, now 6.4/4.4
Overall fielding has gone up 0.4 on average, with the W/K gone up one level.

I also don't have 2 of my bowlers with abysmal stamina anymore (1 woeful, 4 feeble). I also now have a decent spinner if needed who plays as a batsman anyway.

Following this through I should be looking at bowling and batting that averages on or above the respectable level by the end of this season, with near mediocre secondary.

Decent player on the transfer list at the moment:

    Code:
    Jack Leader (78005)
LH Batsman, LFM Bowler, strong form, fresh
(strong batting form, proficient bowling form)
A defensive player with respectable leadership skills and worthless experience.

    Plays For:	Leeds United
    Nationality:	Australia
    Age: 20 Years Old
    Battrick Rating:	23,425
    Wages:	3,791 p/w

    Stamina: competent Wicket Keeping: mediocre
    Batting: respectable Concentration: mediocre
    Bowling: quality Consistency: proficient
    Fielding: woeful
    Deadline:
    22/11/05 15:38

    Asking Price: 1,000,000

    Current Bid:
    1,167,331 by Doobie Bombers

A lot of money but still a bargain IMO. The manager's a bit stupid if he lets him go for that price as he's still reasonably trainable. The only reason he won't attract many bids is quite simply that not many people have enough money.

My ratings reflect my complete disregard for secondaries in season one (and my lack of young trainees/failure to purchase young trainees), only cottoned on recently...

    Top 7: 7.86/3.57

Top 5 bowlers (well, the ones I use, anyway): 7.60/4.20

Looking at my first ever match, the primaries for batting and bowling were at 7.00 and 6.00 respectively, with secondaries having improved only marginally. Overall fielding has gone up, but mainly due to buying players and getting a YP with respectable fielding rather than due to training. Most of my guys have passable stamina now, only one abysmal left, but he bats at 7 so meh.

    last league game competent/mediocre/abysmal/competent/mediocre/competent

not a bad improvement even if i do say so myself

Most of that difference will be down to morale. If that last friendly you played was on fair fitness then that would be a perfect comparison of how much the skill of your team has improved (morale was reset to what it was at the start of the season in England).

Got this guy relatively cheap, very cheap looking at how insane the market is at the moment, 30k.

    George Tedstone - 18 yo, BT Rating=2,005
RH Batsman, RM Bowler, competent form, fresh
(mediocre batting form, respectable bowling form)
A steady player with competent leadership skills and abysmal experience.
    Stamina: woeful Wicket Keeping: abysmal
    Batting: feeble Concentration: abysmal
    Bowling: competent Consistency: abysmal
    Fielding: abysmal

One fielding and one bowling session for the rest of the season will make a good player out of them, concentration and consistency are over-rated in the transfer market I think, you can level those up 1 every 4-5 weeks tops just with fielding training alone (and the concentration increases aren't totally wasted on a feeble bat), where as it takes 12 weeks to increase bowling.
