Ian Bell doing his best to make sure that the Steve Smith @ 8 to replace Hauritz bandwagon begins to deteriorate.

To be fair, Steve Smith playing a big part in that too...

Impressed with Bell - not easy with the rain breaks. Smith has blown it now surely?
Don't think he was going to be in the side as the front line spinner anyway, though with the selectors the way they have been, who knows for sure?

Prior, Bresnan, Shahzad and Tremlett to come. Interesting stat - Shahzad has a first class batting average of 28.

Smith isn't a world beater, but on a slightly dry pitch his wrist spin can trouble the Poms and they are atm pretty much making sure he gets sidelined for the Ashes by launching an onslaught like this.

Would bat at 7 at most counties in England but seeing as Yorkshire have Rashid,Bresnan and sometimes Wainwright in the side he ends up batting way too low for his ability.Almost counts as a genuine allrounder but hasn't and possibly won't get the chance to get the big scores his talent deserves as he runs out of partners all the time.

Doesn't help if he keeps landing half-trackers and full-tosses every over.

Liked the cut of his jib with the ball. I know conditions were helpful, but he bowled really well.

Would probably explain why he has an average of 28 over 40 innings with only two 50s. Would be a pretty decent tail if he had to replace Finn.

I rate him very highly, should have been in tour party ahead of Bresnan and Tremlett in my view. His reverse swing is dangerous too.Very useful cricketer who seems to be improving extremely quickly.

Well mate, he doesn't have much bowling under his belt..does he? He was warming the bench in India and here in Australia he played a few ODI'S and a FC game where he didn't bowl much.

Might still land one or two though. It's plain as the nose on your face that at this stage he's a batsman (and a damn talented one) who bowls a bit. He's nowhere near a Test standard spinner. He may end up one, but that's another story altogether.

Glorious way to bring up a fantastic ton.Biggest compliment you can give him is that it is like watching a Mark Waugh gem. Some lovely shots today.
