They may have a half-decent batting line-up and an excellent wicket-keeper in Rahul Dravid. But,there bowling line-up is quite shocking.
No offense to all those Indian supporters.
But you're team isn't the best in the world by any means.

Dravid an excellent wicket-keeper? What are you on? He's a stand-in at best.

Anyway watch out, you have critisized the Indian team, therefor you are now an idiot...

Bit of a dangerous newbie thread, just leave it that they are a talented team who need to perform overseas........

This sort of thing is best left to someone like Rik :D as he is an experienced offender of Indian supporters, although I have a feeling that he is on better terms with them at the mo than he has been previously:D

Dravid is an excellent player. He's a wicket-keeper and can bat very well at times. He may be not as good at the one-day game but in the test matches, he's an all round quality player. And,after criticising them so much, I needed to say something good about them and that was the only thing I could think of.

This is in the same way that Maher, Shah, Trescothick and Vincent are excellent wicket-keepers, right?

err Vincent keeps for Auckland 85% of the time so he's a little different to Trescothick & co. But agreed I doubt he'll ever be NZ's #1 keeper.

Well right now they aren't rated highly, so how can they be over-rated?

Rahul Dravid is an excellent batsment, but one can't say that he's equally good with the gloves, still he does a decent job behind the stumps.

The bowlers have been doing a decent job in the past couple of months, its the batting that is a headace.I believe the batsmen are short of confidence, they need to regain their lost touch pretty soon!

Overrated by whom(or is it who?)? You, me, the bookies, the ICC, other Indians, Asians, the cricketing community as a whole....? Please specify.

The word to describe the Indian batting lineup is not half-decent, it is inconsistent. it can be the best in the world one day and the worst, the next. Dravid has developed into an excellent middle order batsman in ODIs and has the highest average among Indians overseas(48.00) but what he is not, is an excellent wicket-keeper, he is a stand-in so that the team can cram in the maximum number of batsmen(which is technically called maintaining the balance of the team). This action implicitly acknowledges two things:

1) The batting is inconsistent at best and we need all the batsmen we can get.
2) The bowling is weak and can at best do a supporting role to the batsmen(ie; the batsmen have to pile on the runs and then hopefully the pressure will get to the opponents and the bowlers can cash in if we bat first. If we bat second, the batting just has to be mentally prepared to chase a big score. Honorable exceptions overseas are Srinath and an in-form Zaheer). This isn't really shocking anymore, it's been a fact for a long time now that outside of home conditions, Indian bowling sucks.

No offense to all those Indian supporters.
No offense taken, atleast by me.

But you're team isn't the best in the world by any means.
No, indeed they are not. So what? We Indians still want them to win.

Now days alot of teams are making part-time keepers, full timers to balance the side. And this can work on occassions but unfortunately for Rahul in NZ on average he made 2 or 3 costly mistakes per ODI.

I'm a big supporter of having a specialist wicket-keeper. Vincent is a fulltime keeper for Auckland but against Sri Lanka he missed two important chances whereas McCullum who is an excellent keeper probably would have gloved them.

The fact is, is that times have changed..no longer is a wicket-keeper expected just to be good at keeping, he's also meant to have a good batting average & on the international stage those players seem few & far between.

I think its fine for Dravid to keep against the minnows but in the big matches it will just take one mistake from the keeper to let the opposition off the hook & for heads to drop in the field.

Been here before, answered a similar question before. I like the fact that people have written us off already. Its better this way.

Ahhhh but I didn't write them off. I just said that "on current form" they are not they best batting side in the world, and nowhere near being the best. A few good scores could easily change that. Anyway on current form Zimbabwe are the best due to scoring 340-2 :D

Sorry, but the nearest I've been to India is the local takeaway!

But I have been there too often, Bombay Duck is one of my favourites!
