India Thread

Alright so this WC is really not as important as the real one, but atleast we can save some pride by doing well in it and hopefully have some fun along the way.

We have lots of big hitters in Indian cricket, hopefully they can come good.

Any ideas for team composition?

Wouldn't surprise me if Irfan Pathan made the squad TBH. He could be quite a handy Twenty20 player.

Oh for sure. And Sehwag is pretty much gauranteed a spot as well.

I'd play Akash Chopra.

That's how much I care about this.

Just don't let him bowl.

Hopefully he can really regain his pace in the next three years before it is too late. An all rounder who can hit quick runs is critical to twenty20 so he should at least make the squad. Virendar Sehwag has a tremendous bowling record in twenty20s and obviously can score quick runs at the top of the order.

Uthappa, Tendulkar, Sehwag, Yuvraj, Gambhir, Dhoni, Ganguly and Pathan can all hit quick runs too and hopefully at least three can fire in one match.

The fact he only has to bowl 4 overs maximum should help him out I'd say.

Ehh ... plenty of prospects (M Tiwary, R Sharma, Y Pathan, etc) and the selectors should use this opportunity to rest the big guns. Naming a side would be pointless right here.

Here are a few 'star' batting performers/performances from seaching through the 2006/7 interstate twenty20 cup.

Sehwag: http://content-uk.cricinfo.com/india...ch/290547.html

Sunny Singh, good average: http://content-uk.cricinfo.com/india...yer/35282.html

Well played: http://content-uk.cricinfo.com/india...ch/290564.html & http://content-uk.cricinfo.com/india...ch/290575.html

Sachin Tendulkar: http://content-uk.cricinfo.com/india...ch/290836.html & http://content-uk.cricinfo.com/india...ch/290839.html

Niraj Patel: http://content-uk.cricinfo.com/india...ch/290842.html

Not many twenty20 stars, but not many games, hopefully some can be made by the ICL and the Twenty20 World Cup.

Did you go by 20/20 Interstate Cup state stats? Really, you can't tell much by those since at least half of the leading run-scorers and wicket-takers are unknowns froom minor sides - chances are they just had a good patch over a few innings. You'd have to go by what these players have done in the past as well as the role they play in the national side. For instance, Niraj Patel is known to be a grafter, Sachin Tendulkar should be preserved for test cricket and Virender Sehwag would be well-suited to this form of cricket ...
