And instead, it has led to a front page full of Jimmy Anderson threads...
Which would be perfectly fine if they were full of the respect and awe that befits such a great man and his remarkable achievement.

Instead were discussing if the No 1 bowler in the world would make the fith ranked test team.......appalling.

And lol @ stephen and TJB claiming to want meaningful discussion out of this thread.

Thought it was quite obvious I was joking. Thread is clearly a straight-up **** stir

edit: although you can't claim the question is ridiculous. It's likely he wouldn't make the Australian side regularly given the other options and the location they play most of their cricket. The relevance and timing of the thread is poor, and could have a questionable motive, but it's absolutely a fair question to ask.

Since 2005, England lead 5-2 in Ashes

For any tennis fans out there, consider this as analogous to England having a break of serve (winning away). If Aus need to hold serve here (win at home) then break England next series to get back on even.

It is good that a real bowler took the number 1 spot again but it would be better if he was a good bowler as well as being a real bowler. Sick of seeing bloody finger spinners at the top of the charts.

(For those who can't tell the last post was half sarcastic - which half is up to the reader to decide)

Yeah this was the point I was making at the outset of the thread.
And one of the things I wanted discussion on when I started the thread.
And one of the things I was interested in seeing discussed when reading the start of the thread
Seeing TJB getting interested by seeing Stephen getting interested in Burgey getting interested at Honest Bahrani's point was what i was interested in this thread.

This was ofcourse before Adders threw a hissy fit

Nah he gets in as foil to Phillander and Steyn so they're no injuring themselves all the time. Think:

6. QDK
7. Phillander
8. Maharaj
9. Rabada
10. Steyn
11. Anderson
That's a long tail but if any team could pull it off it would be SA since Philander is pretty good with the bat and QDK is basically a batsman who is also a top shelf wicket keeper (ala Gilly).

I still think that in most cases they wouldn't worry about Anderson and fitting him in, they'd go with 6 batsmen + QDK + Steyn, Philander, Rabada and whichever spinner was going to be dropped in a year.

Steyn, Rabada and Anderson and Philander is a very same-y sort of attack. Not sure it's worth dropping a batsman.

Yeah, not often that this set of posters have common interests, is it? :p
